On September 8, 2022, Netflix Anime released a trailer for BASTARD!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy’s second cour, which is set to premiere on September 15, 2022!

The trailer confirms what all BASTARD!! fans were dying to know — Dark Schneider is indeed resurrected. Dark Schneider cockily states, “The extremely  handsome protagonist is immortal!”

You can watch the trailer on Netflix Anime’s official YouTube channel here:

Trailer for BASTARD!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy.

The trailer teases, “[Bastard is] a landmark of Dark Fantasy. The Dark Rebel Army saga concludes. Abigail leads the army of [undead]. Demon mail — one of three demonic treasures. The world is on the brink of destruction.”

The trailer gives us a glimpse of how Abigail and Kall-su are going to set out with the Dark Rebel Army to conquer two kingdoms that each possess a seal preventing the God of Destruction, Anthrasax, from being awakened.

After Abigail learns of Dark Schneider’s resurrection, he decides to use the three demonic treasures against Dark Schneider to keep him busy while he retrieves one of the seals. One of those demonic treasures is revealed to be demonic mail (armor).

The demonic mail appears to be controlled by an undead skeleton with a ring in his possession, but that ring might also be one of the demonic treasures.

The third demonic treasure might be the long spear that was shown in the trailer. If all three of these demonic treasures are combined it’s possible they create the 2nd form of the demon armor that we see in the trailer.

After Abigail manages to retrieve two of the seals, the final seal is the one in Sheila’s possession, which she is seen wearing around her neck. In the original manga, the seal was within Sheila’s body and during Anthrasax’s resurrection, Sheila was in great pain. The trailer is teasing that the seal is outside of Sheila’s body in the necklace, but we’ll have to wait and see if that’s truly the case.

The trailer also gives a first glimpse of the final boss, which Dark Schneider, Arshes, and Gara team up together to defeat. Abigail created the Cyclops by using Anthrasax’s flesh as a catalyst.

Throughout all of this Yoko might appear to be uninvolved, but her behind-the-scenes interactions with Dark Schneider and Lucien’s love for her are what keeps Darsh human and prevents him from succumbing to the temptation of awakening Anthrasax.

Why ear cleaning?

In Japanese anime, it’s not unusual for a mimikaki scene to take place where a man is laying his head on a girl’s lap and she starts to clean his ear in an intimate manner. Mimikaki is the term for ear cleaning using an ear pick (usually shown with a puffy, cotton-ball like thing on the end) to remove wax from inside of the ear. According to anime, the sensation of laying your head on a woman’s lap as she cleans your ears is associated with childhood, unconditional love, and being cared for. The scene is meant to express a moment of peace — the calm before the storm.
