The Promised Neverland manga ended with a largely conclusive resolution to the plot. The series evolved from a hugely successful manga to an anime adaptation on top of it, with Norman, Emma, and Rey battling to guide their fellow orphans to a place free of human-eating monsters.

This new book called Beyond The Promised Neverland will include stories that happened before and after the fantastical tale of Grace Field House. It’s a collection of short stories. The book is now scheduled to be released later in 2022.

The creators of The promised Neverland describe the spin-off series as:

“From the creators of The Promised Neverland comes a collection of their best short stories, including the pilot chapter of what would later become their biggest hit and an epilogue that shows what the main characters are up to after the end of the manga series.”

The rise and fall of The Promised Neverland

Shirai and Demizu began serializing the manga in 2016. The orphanage, their caregivers, and the entire world around them are not what they appear, as a group of orphans raised in an idyllic rural setting come to understand in the television series. The manga by Shirai and Demizu was commended for its deft writing, dramatic scene, and endearing characters and soon rose to the top of the list of most lauded works in Weekly Shonen Jump. The series has more than 41 million volumes in circulation globally.

The series’ anime adaptation made its debut in 2019. It was created by CloverWorks, the animation company behind Wonder Egg Priority and the biggest surprise hit of 2022, My Dress-Up Darling. Similar to how the manga was greeted favorably, numerous media publications hailed the anime’s first season as one of the greatest of the decade. Mamoru Kanbe, who had done work on Elfen Lied and A Place Further than the Universe, directed the television series.

However, after the anime’s second season premiered in 2021, reactions to the show swiftly became negative. The anime’s second season received a lot of backlash for drastically altering and condensing the original storyline from the manga, literally cramming several years’ worth of material into only a few episodes. Also, while the first season was largely praised, many professional critics considered the second season among the worst anime of 2021.
