Blue Exorcist hiatus update: Ao no Exorcist manga’s break finally ends in 2022 after 9 months

The Blue Exorcist hiatus finally came to an end now the Ao no Exorcist manga is resuming serialization after a 9-month long break.

This halt in serialization by the writer and illustrator of the manga, Kazue Kato, began in July 2021. The manga was expected to return in April 2022.

However, its return window was shifted to a month and has returned in May 2022.

The news of the hiatus was announced last year by Kazue on her Twitter page.

She expressed she was unable to work on two serializations concurrently and decided to focus on another project. This is an adaptation of the author Fuyumi Ono‘s Eizen Karukaya Kaitan (Strange Tales from the Handy Shop Karukaya) horror novels.

This project was concluded in April and Kazue took a month’s break before ending the Blue Exorcist months-long hiatus. 

Rin and Yukio return with a new chapter of Blue Exorcist in the June 2022 issue of Jump SQ, which was published on May 2nd in Japan.

The manga is set In a two-dimensional world. They are, the human world, Assiah, and the demon world Gehenna. The story revolves around twin brothers, Rin and Yukio Okumura with Rin as the leading protagonist.

Both brothers were raised by a powerful exorcist, Father Fujimoto. Rin did not know their biological father’s true identity.

Rin’s contact with a demon brings the revelation from father Fujimoto that the demon Lord, Satan is the real father of the twins.

Unfortunately, Satan himself kills Father Fujimoto in an attempt to bring Rin back to the demon world.

Before this Fujimito gave Rin a demon-slaying sword that saves his life. 

The series from then on largely follows Rin’s quest to become the strongest exorcist, by joining the mysterious true cross academy to defeat Satan. 

The Blue Exorcist manga publication, adaptations, and more 

Ao No exorcist is an action-comedy fantasy manga that began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square monthly manga magazine in 2009.

The series has 26 volumes and also began its localized serialization with Chapter 33 of the manga in its Shonen Jump Alpha magazine starting on July 30, 2012. Since then, Viz media has published the chapters in English in North America.

The manga has since then inspired an animated film, an OVA, two seasons of an anime series as well as video games.

The manga was first adapted into an anime television series directed by Tensai Okumaru. It was produced by A-1 Pictures and broadcast from April to October 2011.

Afterward, a film was produced by the same studio, titled the Blue Exorcist: The Movie, which premiered in December 2012.

In January 2017, a second season of the anime was released. The English Sub and Dub of the anime series are available for streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Funimation.
