On July 10, 2022, Bocchi the Rock! revealed a new character visual featuring the story’s band members, which announces that the anime will premiere in October 2022.

The anime is inspired by Aki Hamaji’s four-panel manga that follows the story of a shy high school girl named Hitori “Bocchi-chan” (Loner) Goto, who is a passionate guitarist. After school, Hitori goes home and practices playing guitar by herself.

Hitori’s solitary life changes when she meets Nijika Ijichi, who happens to be looking for a guitarist for her group named Kessoku Band (Cable Tie). Once Hitori joins the band she begins to grow as a guitarist alongside her unique band members: Nijika Ijichi, Ryo Yamada, and Ikuyo Kita.

On December 17, 2021, a trailer was revealed for the upcoming anime Bocchi the Rock! It can be watched on Aniplex’s official YouTube channel here:

What are the personalities of the girls in the band Cable Tie?

The main character, Hitori “Bocchi-chan” Goto, is extremely shy and has a mysterious air about her. Hitori grew interested in the idea of forming a band and started playing guitar on her own. She was unable to form a band, however, because she didn’t have any friends.

Regardless of this, Hitori continued to hone her guitar skills and once she decided she was good enough posted a video of herself playing guitar online. She created a persona for herself as a “guitar hero”. Hitori was close to becoming a hikikomori (shut-in) when she was approached by Nijika Ijichi to join her band Cable Tie.

Ikuyo Kita is a high school girl, who has a very confident personality, and will even greet strangers with a smile. She is in charge if guitar vocals in the band Cable Tie.

Ryo Yamada is a cool, eccentric second-year high school girl. She is a close friend of Nijika and is in charge of playing the bass guitar in the band Cable Tie.

Nijika Ijichi is a very cheerful high school girl, who is the leader of the band Cable Tie, and plays the drums. After she recruits Hitori into her band she acts very protectively of her and tends to look after her.

Nijika is a free spirit and tends to rush in as a coordinator for the other band members. She is also the manager of a live music house called STARRY, and so has experience performing live.

In December 2017, Hamaji launched the manga in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine.
