Castlvania fans are speculating that a trailer for the upcoming spin-off will be released today and are extremely excited to see what the characters will look like.

Castlevania fans have eagerly been awaiting more news since last year during Netflix Geeked Week it was announced that Castlevania would return to Netflix with a new era and new hero based on one of the most beloved entries in the video game franchise. The Castlevania spin-off will star fan-favorite hero Richter Belmont.

The Castlevania spin-off moves the series’ setting forward in time from the middle ages to the era of the French Revolution. The story will center on Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor Belmont from the original series and a key figure in many of the classic Castlevania video games.

Sypha and Trevor’s legacy takes center stage in Castlevania spin-off

Netflix tweeted that Richter is the son of Sypha and Trevor but later corrected their tweet by adding many “greats” and then “grandson” at the end. In the games, several generations spanning hundreds of years separate the two Belmonts. Accompanying Richter on his adventures will be Maria Renard – a skilled magic wielder and Richter’s sister-in-law.

In 1993, Richter Belmont made his first appearance in the PC-Engine game titled Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, which was released exclusively in Japan. Later, the game was released internationally when it received a simplified port to Super Nintendo and was renamed Castlevania: Dracula X. More than a decade later, Rondo of the Blood was ported to PSP and the Wii Virtual Console, but was able to find an audience with hardcore fans of the franchise that consider it to be the best of the Castlevania games due to its interesting storyline and memorable characters.

In 1997, a new game titled Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was released featuring Richter Belmont, and he was hyped as being the strongest vampire killer of the Belmont Bloodline. In Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game Richter happens to be a playable guest fighter.
