CloverWorks X Blue Period creator Tsubasa Yamaguchi produce anime short for Color Test Company

On August 18, 2022, a special anime short that is a collaboration between animation studio CloverWorks and Blue Period art manga creator Tsubasa Yamaguchi was released. The anime promotes the color test company Shikisai Kentei Kyokai.

Studio CloverWorks is known for anime such as My Dress-Up Darling, Shadows House, Wonder Egg Priority, and The Promised Neverland. The studio also collaborated with WIT Studio on making the SPY x FAMILY anime. Manga artist Yamaguchi designed the original characters for the anime short.

The short anime is titled Advance Forward, and You Will Find Your True Colors (Iro wo Shiru Tabi, Sekai ga Hiroku Naru), and the first episode is titled Job Hunting (Shukatsu).

What is the plot of Advance Forward, and You Will Find Your True Colors?

The anime begins with Hiiro Kitayama, a vocational student who studies design, attending a design course with several other students. Everyone is working on coming up with a sneaker design and they need to decide its color theme/scheme.

After class, Hiiro overhears some fellow design students thinking about their futures and their plans. One plans to do an internship and Hiiro realizes how impatient he feels about his own future. While Hiiro is riding the train home he uses an app on his phone to do some job searching and finds a cool-looking site. He watches a video with a guy giving advice about the importance of color and recommends a book he read.

Hiiro decides to purchase the recommended book titled True Colors, which is all about the importance of color, and the color test. He studies the book and gains more knowledge about the emotions certain colors and color combinations can evoke in people.

The next day, in his design class Hiiro is finally able to impress his teacher with a sneaker design that is blue with pink accents, and very eye-catching. Things begin to look up for Hiiro, and next, we see he’s the rookie at a new company working on a design advertisement. In the end, he’s asked if he’ll allow himself to be interviewed.

Who are the cast members?

Daiki Yamashita plays Hiiro Kitayama. Nao Toyama plays Nanase Minami, a construction company employee, who in the second upcoming episode finds herself caught between the wishes of her client and the orders of a designer.

Both characters will open up a new door to a possible future through the color test. The color test refers to a certification exam, which evaluates theoretical and systematic knowledge about color and was first created in 1990. The color test is designed on the belief that colors have meaning and can evoke emotions in people.

Advance Forward, and You Will Find Your True Colors Episode 2 will premiere on August 25, 2022, and is titled My Job (Watashi no Shigoto-hen).
