Double Decker! Doug & Kirill Season 2 seems like a real possibility considering how Episode 13 finished off the first season.
Doug and even the robot Yuri somehow managed to survive and the Seven-O Special Crime Investigation Unit continues its work fighting Anthem crime. Never mind, there are 144 space bad buys just waiting to invade!
When the Double Decker! anime was originally announced fans were expecting Tiger & Bunny Season 3 but instead they got a vaguely related Tiger & Bunny spin-off.
While some anime fans were hoping that meant the story of Doug and Kirill would be directly connected somehow to Kotetsu and Barnaby, it seems like the only story connection between the veteran and rookie detective duo and the Tiger & Bunny characters is their friendly rivalry dynamic.
The main connection is that studio Sunrise director Joji Furuta, series producer Ryo Ando, scriptwriter Tomohiro Suzuki, and composer Norihiro Itagaki were all involved in previous Tiger & Bunny anime projects. When the Double Decker! Doug & Kirill anime was first announced, it was also stated that it was simply “one part” of the “new Tiger & Bunny animation project.”
That doesn’t necessarily mean that Double Decker! Season 2 is already planned out, but studio Sunrise is definitely planning on continuing the anime with Double Decker! Doug & Kirill OVA episodes.
This article provides everything that is known about Double Decker! Doug & Kirill Season 2 and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.
Double Decker! Doug & Kirill Extra Story OVA episodes confirmed for early 2019
Announced by the official website, Double Decker! Doug & Kirill Extra Story will feature three new OVA episodes that will be released on Blu-Ray/DVD and streaming platforms (presumably Crunchyroll, Hulu, Funimation, etc).
Not much is known about the OVA episodes except that they are a “story that was never animated in the main part” of the anime series. They are also mostly side stories that ran parallel with the first season.
The story of episode “Seven Detective Daily Lives!” is set between episodes 4 and 5 and it will be released on February 10, 2019. “Infernal Unfair!” is set between episodes 8 and 9 and it will be released March 10, 2019. “Criminal Koriaga Yukemuru Murder Case Record!” is the only actual sequel since it’s set after Episode 13 and it is scheduled for April 10, 2019.
The Blu-Ray/DVD for all three Extra Story episodes will be released on May 24, 2019. The OVA episodes will also be available on a variety of streaming platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and many others.
Double Decker! Doug & Kirill manga
Corresponding to the anime, a Double Decker! Doug & Kirill manga adaptation started releasing the same day of the first episode’s premiere. Drawn by Tiger & Bunny mangaka Sakakibara Mizuki, the manga series will be serialized on the Tonari no Young Jump magazine website and also the YanJan! app.
Unfortunately, an English translation of the Double Decker! manga has not been announced. English readers are completely out of luck since even fan-made scanlation projects have yet to pick up the manga.
Double Decker! Season 2 release date
As of the last update, studio Sunrise or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Double Decker! Doug & Kirill Season 2 release date. Nor has the production of a sequel been announced.
Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information. In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Double Decker! Season 2 premiere date will occur in the future.
Financially, the prospects appear grim for an anime sequel beyond the 2019 OVA episodes. The Blu-Ray/DVD sales in Japan were pretty much a flop. It could be argued that streaming revenue is the biggest financial factor in the modern anime industry but even then the Double Decker! Doug & Kirill anime didn’t break into the top popular charts.
