Hunter x Hunter has been on hiatus for the longest time in the series’ history, but the manga is finally preparing to return for a new chapter after over four years! The Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 release date is confirmed for October 23, 2022.

English readers can also join in the fun immediately. VIZ Media has confirmed that the Hunter x Hunter English simulpub will be released on the same day.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s famed manga series began with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998, although it’s been operating for a much shorter period than you may anticipate. The manga has had the most significant gap between new chapters in its entire run. That’s what makes the new chapter so special.

Hunter x Hunter Volume 37 ending the 4 years hiatus

Hunter x Hunter has mainly remained silent during its four-year hiatus because of the mangaka’s bad health. According to the official Shonen Jump Twitter account, the Hunter x Hunter new chapter will be released in Japan.

Japanese publisher Shueisha released the previous volume in Japan in October 2018, with the English version following in August 2019. Hunter x Hunter Volume 37 will cover chapters 381-390 but will not include any chapters that the creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, is working on.

The entire Hunter x Hunter manga series is now accessible digitally through Viz Media’s Shonen Jump vault. The three most recent chapters in the series are entirely free, and the rest of the series is available with a paid subscription.

The return of the Hunter x Hunter Manga

Togashi joined Twitter in May 2022 to keep fans up to date on the series and quickly gained millions of followers. In July, the mangaka stated that he has resumed sketching panels for the Hunter x Hunter chapters, having completed the scripts for the first 10 chapters, giving fans who had been waiting for years hope. Togashi only recently updated his work in early September 2022, stating that the second volume is practically finished except for a double-page spread.

This isn’t the first instance Hunter x Hunter has been put on hold owing to Togashi’s back issues. From 2014 to 2016, the series had a two-year sabbatical before returning for two months before taking another year off. This pattern continued until it was agreed in 2018 that Hunter x Hunter would take another hiatus, but this time it would be the longest yet, lasting four years. While he intends to finish the series, the creator has provided an update on his health, stating in a concerning tweet that he is in chronic agony and has lost strength in his right hand.

Hunter x Hunter was adapted into an anime twice throughout the manga’s serialization and following hiatuses, the first time in 1999 and the second time in 2011. Madhouse created the 2011 version, which lasted until 2014 and had 148 episodes. The series is now available on Netflix in 104 countries as of September 1, owing to a partnership between the streaming company and Japan’s Nippon TV.

Viz Media publishes print editions of Volumes 1–36 in English. It is also available digitally through the Shonen Jump app. Currently, there is no word on when the English translation of Volume 37 will be released.
