A new trailer for a forthcoming compilation known as Liminal Zone has surfaced.
Junji Ito has a busy schedule, and we’re not only talking about the manga he’s presently working on. The anime adaptation of Uzumaki is scheduled to reach Toonami this fall.
Netflix has confirmed Junji Ito’s Maniac series is in production, which will adopt several stories that have yet to hit the small screen.
Junji Ito: Liminal zone trailer
Viz Media used the opportunity to publish the official trailer for Junji Ito Liminal Zone on their Youtube channel. The trailer sets the mood for a spooky narrative in which a couple encounters a mysterious woman who opens up the world of the supernatural, as the new video depicts a terrifying otherworldly encounter:
Junji Ito has been making manga for decades, short stories, and long-form works. He has won three Eisner prizes throughout the course of his career. With the likes of Uzumaki, Gyo, Frankenstein, No Longer Human, and countless others helping to pad Ito’s already strong resume, the artist has become not only the most well-known name when it comes to horror in anime but one of the world’s greatest masters of horror.
The Liminal Zone book plot
The Liminal Zone is a compilation of a few different stories, as are many of Junji’s works. These stories share the same odd, messed up, and absurd quality that his stories are known for.
‘Crying Woman Way’ follows a couple who visit a town that appears to use still the old, mostly forgotten ritual of “weeping ladies” (professional mourners) during funerals. The depictions of the crying women were both terrifying and fascinating. Readers might enjoy the thought of a corpse that weeps long after her death.
‘Madonna’ is a religious horror novel about some insane zealots. The zealots believe they are on a particular mission to find the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary. Readers will enjoy the ending and the twists in this one. Junji Ito had dabbled with religious themes in several of his prior works, but this was by far the most notable instance of that theme in his writing.
‘The Spirit Flow of Aokigahara’ depicts a couple visiting Aokigahara’s infamous Suicide Forest. They visit the forest after one of the couples is diagnosed with a terminal illness. When the two arrive in the forest, they discover an incomprehensible source of spiritual energy that draws Norio in and causes strange changes in him. This story dealt with some peculiar concepts and artwork later in the highly unsettling story!
‘Slumber’ is about a young man who wakes up with memories of killings. He does not know about arranging the murders, nor does he have a motivation.
There is no fixed release date for Uzumaki or Maniac at this time, but there are plenty of horror lovers eager to get their hands on these new adaptations. Will you be purchasing this latest collection when it becomes available in July? Let us know in the comments.
