What is the plot of Lupin Zero?

How did Lupin grow up to become the notorious gentleman thief known as Lupin the III? Since 1967, when Monkey Punch launched his Lupin the 3rd manga it took the world by storm and gained global recognition. The character Lupin the 3rd has appeared in various media due to his popularity.

However, despite his longstanding status and notoriety as the world’s greatest thief, back in the day Lupin was just a young and inexperienced boy. Lupin Zero is loosely based on “Young Lupin III” from the original manga and will tell a nostalgic yet brand-new story that will shed light on Lupin’s mysterious yet humble beginnings.

The story is set in 1960s Japan (the same era the original series was first published), and revolves around a young schoolboy named Lupin, who has a penchant for swindling his fellow students and getting into trouble during his nights out on the town. During the 1960s Japan was enjoying an economic boom.

However, when Lupin meets the gun-wielding hooligan schoolmate, Daisuke Jigen, everything changes. The two are caught up in a yakuza (Japanese crime syndicate) plot and the life of a beautiful singer is hanging in the balance. Lupin and Jigen will have to team up if they’re going to save this beauty’s life. But once Lupin has caught a taste of the thrill of outsmarting the bad guys his life will never be the same.
