The Mashle: Magic and Muscles anime is getting ready for its full premiere in 2023. The series has given fans a new glimpse at its main hero, Mash’s character design for the upcoming series!

Mashle: Magic and Muscles is being hailed as a “full” adaptation of the manga series

Although Hajime Komoto’s classic manga series is in the midst of its final arc, with everyone fighting for their life against the final gang of villains, the franchise is about to break out with its anime. It’s been a while since we’ve seen more of the anime in development, but that’s about to change.

Mash’s close-up character design

Mashle: Magic and Muscles’ anime production has been very little revealed thus far, as it is currently slated for a vague release window in 2023. The pages of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine have revealed a closer look at Mash Burnedead’s character design for the series.

The anime will capture Komoto’s deceptively simplistic graphic style for the adaptation, but that’s before adding all of the action featured in the manga.

Studio A-1 Pictures will be producing the Mashle anime as directed by Tomoya Tanaka, with Yousuke Kuroda writing the scripts, Hisashi Toshima designing the characters, and Masaru Yokoyama producing the soundtrack. Chiaki Kobayashi (Vinland Saga, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and others) will voice Mash Burnedead in the anime.

What to expect from Mashle: Magic and Muscles anime

Mashle is set in a universe where magic is an everyday part of life and a social status indicator. Those who wield tremendous magic are seen as superior, while those who do not are regarded as garbage. Mash, the series’ main character, has no magical abilities and cannot even cast the most basic spells, which is why his family abandoned him.

Regro Burnedead tutored the abandoned Mash in self-defense. He lived in isolation with the young man, frightened of how society would treat the magicless Mash.

Mash has the perfect physique thanks to years of training and working out, but his years of solitude have also hampered his comprehension of common sense. Mash comes into contact with shady officials who threaten to hunt down the adoptive father and son combination. He can only save them by enrolling in a magical academy, rising through its levels, and becoming a Divine Visionary. Because he cannot use magic, he must rely on his physique to perform magical feats.

Mashle introduces humor into the classic magical formula

It’s not especially original to have a powerless main character thrive in a world where magic thrives. This story is shared by Black Clover, Doron Dororon, and My Hero Academia. On the other hand, Originality is not a concern for Mashle; the manga ignores it entirely.

The show mocks well-known franchises and depicts them in a lighthearted manner. Mash Burnedead’s design is a cross between Saitama and Mob Psycho 100’s Mob, and his skills are similar to those of One-Punch Man’s bald protagonist. Easton Magic Academy is also a counterpart of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, but with a more eccentric student body.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles criticizes the concept of a magical realm by combining multiple cliches and transforming them into a humorous masterpiece topped with references from well-known franchises. Mashle’s tone and narrative will appeal to readers who adore bizarre comedy, and it is undoubtedly one of the new anime to watch in 2023.
