The new 2022 Moriarty the Patriot OVA episode written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and Teru Miyoshi will be released on Blu-ray/DVD on April 27, 2022!
The Moriarty the Patriot anime special event was held at the Nakano Sun-Plaza in Tokyo on March 5, 2022.
Moriaty The Patriot live dubbing featured at the special event
Mr. Ono was the MC of the event, which started with live dubbing by five of the voice actors: Takuya Sato (Albert James Moriarty), Chiaki Kobayashi (Louis James Moriarty), Soma Saito (William James Moriarty) Shin Furukawa (Sherlock Holmes) and Tomoki Ono (John H. Watson).
Famous scenes featuring each character from the last incident in episodes 23 and 24 were played on screen. The cast’s engaging vocal performance was said to have transported the audience to London at the end of the 19th Century and that everyone felt like they were really witnessing a time when William and Sherlock were confronting each other.
Moriarty the Patriot cast discussed the famous scenes
After the live dubbing was over an interesting ‘talk corner’ began.
The first theme discussed was ‘impressive scenes’. Mr. Saito talked about the final confrontation scene between William and Sherlock. Mr. Saito (Moriarty) and Mr. Furukawa (Sherlock) both enthusiastically talked about how they were able to feed off of each other’s performance in such a way that they pushed their own performances to new emotional heights.
Mr. Kobayashi chose two scenes: the scene where Lewis is hostile to Sherlock on the train and another scene where Lewis is praised by William for making a delicious omelet.
Mr. Ono chose the scene of Sherlock’s housemate audition. Apparently, Mr. Ono voiced three different characters during that scene: an aspiring deadbeat actor, a prostitute, and an old man!
Mr. Sato chose the scene where the three brothers are all happily painting pictures on the wall as shown in the ending credits of the anime.
The next theme discussed was ‘impressive lines’. It comes as no surprise that Mr. Saito, Mr. Kobayashi, and Mr. Furukawa chose William’s ‘Catch me if you can, Mr. Holmes’. Mr. Ono then requested that Mr. Saito say the famous line for the audience who were all enthralled and broke out into raucous applause.
Lastly, Mr. Ono mentioned John’s line of ‘Operation was successful, Sherlock!’
The next theme discussed was ‘my favorite character’. The cast discussed how Mrs. Hudson symbolized Sherlock’s daily life. Mr. Furukawa claimed that Irene became his favorite character due to Yoko Hikasa’s stellar performance that brought Irene’s cool personality to life.
The final theme discussed was ‘change and growth of your character’. Mr. Ono discussed John and Sherlock’s relationship with Mr. Furukawa. Mr. Ono feels John has evolved from being a nuisance to being a real ‘buddy’ and someone Sherlock can now depend on. Mr. Furukawa claimed that due to John’s presence Sherlock is able to maintain his humanity despite being a mystery-solving junkie.
Mr. Sato speculated about how he feels Moriarty’s sense of justice defers from that of his brothers. Mr. Kobayashi brought up how Lewis learned to trust people to the extent of entrusting William’s fate to Sherlock.
Saito talked about how despite William’s tendency to be an intellectual that there were definitely times when it was obvious he had become overwhelmed by his emotions. This made William seem more human to the audience and hence more likable.
Then, the pre-screening of the new OVA Yuri no Remembrance a.k.a Lily’s Reminiscence finally started.
Afterward, the cast members took to the stage again in order to talk about the OVA and also talk about the production of a second OVA Moriarty Family Holiday. Lily’s Reminiscence and Moriarty’s Family Holiday will both be original stories in the anime. It was not discussed if there will be a Moriarty the Patriot Season 2 yet.
