Nobuhiko Okamoto (born October 24, 1986) is a Japanese voice actor best known for playing Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia. Nobuhiko’s second full album titled 十bilation was released in Japan on May 25, 2022. He’s also recently posted a music video for the lead track titled Aizou Catharsis (Love-Hate Catharsis).

Nobuhiko is a singer affiliated with the talent agency Pro-Fit, which mainly handles voice actors. At the 3rd Seiyu Awards he won the Best New Actor award and at the 5th Seiyu Awards he won the Best Supporting Actor Award.

Nobuhiko has voiced many roles in animes and in character CDs. He broke into the music field when he worked on insert songs (soundtracks) for animes. In 2012 he announced his debut as a professional Jpop singer on his 25th birthday. On May 23, 2012, he released his first debut mini-album or EP (extended play record that is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single but fewer than an album) titled Palette in Japan on Kiramune. Palette reached rank 9 on the weekly Oricon chart.

On June 5, 2013, he released his second EP titled Enjoy Full. And on the following year on March 19, 2014, he released the single Shunkan Beat. Other mini-albums that he’s released are Parading (August 13, 2014), Questory (November 25, 2015), and Braverthday (October 24, 2018).

The official music video for Aizou Catharsis.

The music video is incredibly well done and reminds me of some of the music videos by the Jrock artist Gackt. It has a gothic romance/gothic horror feel to it with the spooky haunted house and masked woman outside in the dark forest that is all dressed in black and wielding a sword that may or may not be an angry ghost out for revenge on the lover who spurned her.

十bilation ranked 13th in the Oricon’s daily album chart on its first day and Nobuhiko was sure to let his fans know about this on his official blog.

From singing to playing shogi! Nobuhiko is multi-talented!

Voice acting and singing aren’t the only things Nobuhiko is good at. Apparently, he’s very good at playing shogi, has earned Shogi Certification in 3rd Class, and even appeared on Niconico (Japanese video-sharing website) participating in different Shogi events.

Nobuhiko is also good at gaming, appeared in a Pokemon game event on Niconico, and had his own radio program about gaming called RADIO 4Gamer (2010-2015) with a name change to RADIO 4Gamer Tap (present day). Nobuhiko is also a sporty guy who enjoys badminton. The show is also available on the YouTube channel 4GamerSP.

After some rumors were going around in Shukan Bunshun magazine that he had a lover he was forced to reveal he was married to Asuka Ogame.

Nobuhiko Okamoto has an extensive portfolio as an anime voice actor

At the Anime Expo (Nobuhiko Okamoto Focus Panel) Nobuhiko was interviewed and one of the questions was “what inspired you to become a voice actor?”. Nobuhiko replied that he was a fan of the character Rukawa from the anime Slam Dunk and he wanted to be as cool as him.

Around the time that he graduated from university, on March 7, 2009 in the third Seiyu Awards he won the Best Rookie Actor Award for his portrayals of Accelerator in A Certain Magical Index, Shin Kanzato in Persona: Trinity Soul, and Ryuji Kuhoin in Kure-nai.

On March 5, 2011, in the 5th Seiyu Awards he won the Best Actor In A Supporting Role Award for his portrayals of Takumi Usui in Maid Sama!, Eiji Niizuma in Bakuman, and Accelerator in A Certain Magical Index. (He definitely made the villain/anti-hero Accelerator more likable in my book!)

Here are some of his most memorable voice acting roles:

  • Yu Nishinoya – Haikyu!!
  • Katsuki Bakugo – My Hero Academia
  • Rin Okumura – Blue Exorcist
  • Ghiaccio – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
  • Karma Akabane – Assassination Classroom
  • Issac “Zack” Foster – Angels of Death
  • Yoichi Saotome – Owari no Seraph
  • Louis Napoleon – Captain Tsubasa
  • Khun Aguero Agnes – Tower of God
  • Genya Shinazugawa – Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
  • Kurokiba Ryo – Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma
  • Garfield Tinsel – Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World
  • Bete Loga – Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
  • Liebe in Black Clover
  • Shu Inuzuka – Shikimori’s Not Just a Cute

It’s interesting to note that his character Shu Inuzuka and Katsuki Bakugo, who were both portrayed by Nobuhiko look almost exactly alike!
