What is the plot of Lookism?

The story centers on a high-school boy named Park Hyung Seok, who is bullied and looked down upon by his fellow students due to having a nerdy appearance. Park Hyung Seok is bullied almost daily by a delinquent and finally snaps one day to yell at his mother and demand that he is able to transfer schools.

In an attempt to run away from his problems he moves to Seoul and plans to attend a new high school with a fresh slate. A few nights before he is to begin school, he experiences a supernatural phenomenon when his body is transformed into one that is taller, more muscular, and much more handsome than his previous body. But, strangely enough, he isn’t completely rid of his past self – when his original body is asleep he is able to use the new handsome body, and when his handsome body sleeps he returns to his former appearance.

Park Yung Seok decides to use the handsome body to live his life during the day as Daniel Park and uses the original one at night. Since he still lives life with one foot in both worlds he is able to see just how much the world discriminates against people they consider to be unattractive.

He continues to experience discrimination in his original body while experiencing kindness and special treatment while in his handsome body. With his new body, he’s suddenly able to become a social media influencer, a trainee for an entertainment company, and even a model! Daniel’s “dream life” becomes a “harsh reality” every night when he returns to his original body – his true self. Will he be able to continue living like this forever? Or will he have to make a choice one day between living life as his original self or his handsome self?
