Ninja Kamui anime: Jujutsu Kaisen director Sunghoo Park reveals new Adult Swim anime series

Ninja Kamui, a new show by the director of Jujutsu Kaisen Sunghoo Park, has been confirmed for Adult Swim.

In their announcement, Adult Swim characterizes the new series as “futuristic action/adventure.” Takeshi Okazaki, the illustrator behind the cult hit Afro Samurai, will create the characters for the series.

E&H Production and Sola Entertainment, the digital graphics firm also working on the forthcoming Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, are producing the series. Sola previously collaborated with Adult Swim on Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which premiered in late 2021 on the network.

Ninja Kamui’s release date is undisclosed. However, the program will be accessible on Adult Swim and HBO Max when it airs.

The director of Jujutsu Kaisen’s new Adult Swim series

Sunghoo Park is widely¬†known for directing the first season of the anime version of Jujutsu Kaisen and the show’s debut film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The anime series and the film have gained critical accolades for their sophisticated action choreography and powerful animation.

Before Jujutsu Kaisen, Park helmed God of High School (an anime centered on the same-named famous manhwa) and worked as an animator on various notable MAPPA anime programs, such as Yuri!! On Ice and Garo: Vanishing Line.

“Transgression and punishment of a ninja who loses everything and sets out for retribution, and what waits at the end of his path,” Park said of the new series. “I’m pretty pleased about this new adventure, and I hope fans are. ” Park exclaims in regards to the series.

Ninja Kamui will recount the story of Joe Higan, a brilliant assassin taught by a powerful ninja clan. Higan comes to America to raise his family and escape his brutal past. The clan he used to work for chases him down, murders his family, and abandons him. Higan, now out for vengeance, must employ old ninja skills to face the clan’s latest generation of high-tech warriors, consisting of combat cyborgs and rival ninjas.

Adult Swim revealed the new series with Rick and Morty: The Anime, a ten-episode adaptation of the iconic sci-fi comedy.

Following the launch of both series, Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen remarked,

“Toonami helped expose anime to a U.S. audience 25 years ago and is generating new, vibrant originals for the next generation of anime lovers.” “These two series draw on the heritage of recent originals such as Fena: Pirate Princess,  Shenmue the Animation, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, and Uzumaki, which will premiere later this year.”
