The official trailer for the upcoming anime Pantheon.

Pantheon is AMC Networks’ first traditionally animated series and is scheduled to premiere on September 1, 2022, with weekly episodes on AMC+ and HIDIVE.

What is the plot of Pantheon?

Award-winning author Ken Liu’s collection of short, drama science fiction stories inspired Pantheon. The story centers on a young girl named Maddie, who is being bullied. Just when Maddie doesn’t think things can get worse in her life her scientist father dies under mysterious circumstances.

Maddie is convinced that the firm her father was working for is behind her father’s death and has covered it up. When Maddie sets out to investigate she receives help from a mysterious stranger online who is later revealed to be her recently deceased father David.

Through an experimental destructive brain scan, David’s consciousness was uploaded to the Cloud. David isn’t unhappy with his new existence, however, and believes the possibilities to be endless in his new form. David has become the first of a new kind of being – an “Uploaded Intelligence” or “UT”. The plot thickens when due to a global conspiracy David isn’t the only one who decides to shed their mortal body and gain immortality by transforming into a UT. As more people become UT tensions between this new race and mortal humans begins to rise which threatens to trigger a new kind of world war – one that would be fought in a digital world.

Although the UT have become digitized beings that doesn’t mean that they don’t still have feelings or want friends and family. The story also revolves around what happens to the people, who have become UT, and those loved ones they’ve left behind. This anime series will explore the theme of, “What it means to be human”.
