Pokémon Ultimate Journeys’ new teaser teases the tense battles that Ash, Leon, Cynthia, and the other World Championship candidates will encounter.

The stakes are higher than ever for Ash as he works towards his goals in the forthcoming Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series. Pokemon Season 25 of the animated series will premiere later this year on Netflix in the United States.

Pokémon Ultimate Journeys preview

The new teaser was revealed via the anime series’ official Japanese Twitter account. The teaser features the eight trainers that can become the anime series’ new World Champion. The group comprises iconic characters from across all eight of the franchise’s currently published regions. This includes Cynthia, a fan-favorite Sinnoh Pokémon Master, and Leon, the Galar league winner from 2019’s Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The teaser also features each trainer’s signature Pokémon companion; Ash is seen with Pikachu, Dragon-type expert Iris is seen commanding her Haxorus, and Hoenn’s League champion Steven is seen fighting with his Mega Metagross.

In Japan, the arc is being marketed as the “climax” of the Pokémon Journeys anime. It has been airing consistently since 2019. The series will be available exclusively on Netflix in North America. While the show’s original title has been retained in Japan, the series’ Western release has been divided into three parts: the first was simply known as Pokémon Journeys: The Series, which was later renamed Pokémon Master Journeys last September. Netflix stated that additional episodes of the show will be released under the new title Pokémon Ultimate Journeys.

Pokemon Journeys: The Series plot and more

The series stars “dual protagonists” Ash Ketchum and Goh, as well as their partners Pikachu and Cinderace. Similar to Pokémon Sun and Moon, Ash is based in a single location with Goh, and together they travel throughout the world, specifically all locations that have featured in the core series (from Kanto to Galar), and meet Pokémon living in each region while chasing their own goals.

Ash continues his quest to become a Pokémon Master by competing in the World Coronation Series. He does this with the hopes of one day facing the reigning Monarch, Leon. Goh, who had a chance to brush with Mew when he was six, dreams of one day catching the Mythical Pokémon. He is presently filling his Pokédex and engaging in the Project Mew research project in the hopes that they will bring him closer to his goal. The series also features as side characters a young girl named Chloe, and her father Professor Cerise. Her father leads the Cerise Laboratory in Vermilion City.

Netflix claims it will begin publishing new episodes of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys before the end of 2022. In the meantime, Pokémaniacs can watch Hisuian Snow, a separate Pokémon anime series. Wit Studio, the famed animation production firm behind Ranking of Kings, and one of this season’s biggest hits, Spy x Family, produced the miniseries. It is set in the same region and historical period as Legends: Arceus. The three-episode anime is available for free on the official Pokémon YouTube channel and the Pokémon TV app. The app is available on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch devices.
