On August 8, 2022, it was announced that the Ranking of Kings anime by Sosuke Toka would be getting a TV special. Titled Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage (Ousama Ranking: Yuuki no Takarabako), the new anime episodes will air on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block in 2023 in Japan.

The new TV series will not be considered to be Ranking of Kings Season 2 since the new story is not based on manga Part 2. Instead, it will be considered a Gaiden or side story series.

The number of episodes for Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage hasn’t been announced yet. However, Yuki Kaji, the Japanese voice actor who plays King Daida, claimed via Twitter that there will be “lots of special episodes!”

The cast and staff from the original anime series will return for the Ranking of Kings spin-off.

Hello, my  name is Minami Hinata and I play Bojji in Ranking of Kings. I want to congratulate the anime for getting this special series and thank the fans for their continued support, which made this possible. I am very happy to play Bojji again and to be able to bring another story of Bojji and his friends to life. In Treasure Chest of Courage we will see a new side of the characters that we didn’t get to see in the anime TV series and I’m really looking forward to it!

What is the plot of Ranking of Kings?

The story is set in a world where there is a committee acting in absentia for a race of powerful magical beings called “gods” who rank the power and prosperity of the mortal world’s many kings. The king who reaches the top rank is granted a boon from the Divine Treasure Vault – a fabled treasure of untold riches and holy artifacts. Due to the existence of the Ranking of Kings many kings have the ambition to become ranked #1.

The story’s hero is a little prince named Bojji, who is deaf and also naïve. Despite the many criticisms from his people over his accession to the throne, Bojji strives to do his best to become the greatest of kings. One day, Bojji encounters Kage (Shadow), a survivor of a wiped-out assassin clan, who understands Bojji’s words despite the fact he is unable to speak. The two become friends and begin to navigate the world together, having adventures and encountering darkness.

Bojji’s father, King Bosse, was a legendary giant warrior known as being the strongest man in the world. Although, King Bosse affirmed Bojji’s right to succession on his deathbed, the nobles of the royal court believed that due to Bojji’s physical shortcomings he was unfit to rule in comparison to his physically capable, yet arrogant younger half-brother, Prince Daida.

Bosse’s widow and Daida’s mother, Queen Hilling, decide to maliciously call a vote in order to circumvent Bosse’s will and forgo Bojji’s right to succession. When the vote is passed Daida is placed on the throne. Bojji takes everything in stride and simply requests that he be allowed to go on a journey in order to gain experience and grow stronger.
