Morte is a major antagonist in the Aincrad Arc. He was one of the beta tester where he was a member of the player killer group that later became known as Laughing Coffin.

During the early stages of the death game, Morte assisted his guild in their numerous plots to incite conflict among the Clearers (those trying to clear the game so they will be able to log out), in order to provoke murder among players. Morte attempted to kill Kirito many times and in Scherzo of a Dark Dusk we’re going to get to see one of his assassination plots.

What is the plot of Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night?

Sword Art Online the Movie Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night premiered in October 2021 in Japan and topped the box office during its first weekend. Aria of a Starless Night screened in over 40 countries around the world. In December 2021, Aria of a Starless Night screen in the United States, Canda, Australia, and New Zealand.

The film is based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series, which is a revised retelling of their original Sword Art Online novels, which focuses heavily on Asuna’s point of view, and her friendship with Tozawa Misumi, who calls herself “Mito” in the game.

The Progressive novel series was launched in 2012 and the English version is being published by Yen Press. The Progressive novel series has also inspired a manga adaptation.

The movie begins from Asuna’s point of view and focuses on how she is excelling socially and academically, but that her mother puts a lot of pressure on her. Her friend, fellow gamer, and loner classmate, Misumi Tozawa, advises her to take a short break from studying and join her on the launch day of Sword Art Online.

Asuna decides to accept her offer and borrows her brother’s nervegear so that she is able to enter the VRMMORPG. However, just when Asuna and Mito find each other (Mito had a male avatar) and start playing the game together they find out they’ve become trapped in the game permanently.

The girls discover that the only way to log out is to clear all one hundred floors of the game, and if they die in the game they will die in real life. Mito, who happened to be a beta tester, immediately decides to take Asuna under her wing and begins to show her the ropes. Mito shows Asuna how to hunt monsters, and how to buy weapons, which is essential in the race of resources that has begun.

Asuna reveals to Mito that she considers herself to be bad at games but Mito tells her not to say that again and that she won’t ever put her in danger. However, one day, when Asuna and Mito are killing Picture Plant monsters together, Mito leaves her in order to obtain a rare item.

Asuna accidentally kills a Pitcher Plant that summons a horde of monaster. Mito is thrown off a cliff and Asuna is forced to fight on her own.

At first, Mito tries to return to Asuna’s side but when things get too dangerous and she watches Asuna’s health bar going down she decides to flee and disbands the party. Asuna is about to be killed when Kirito shows up and saves her life! Later, Asuna is invited by Kirito to attend a boss raid metting and they end up teaming up.

During the boss raid, Asuna and Kirito killed Ruined Kobold Sentinels together, but when the boss’s final form is different from the beta test things get hairy. Their leader Diabold is killed, and the adventurers begin to lose hope.

Kirito and Asuna step up to the plate to take on the Kobold Lord and Asuna’s friend Mito also lends a helping hand. After Kirito delivers the final blow he is accused of being a “beater” – a beta tester who cheats at the game.

Instead of denying this Kirito proudly declares that he’s a beater and dons a black trench coat in order to get everyone’s attention away from other beta testers. Asuna follows after Kirito and thanks him for “everything”.

Meanwhile, a mysterious green-haired girl watches them and declares, “Hmm, so these are the top two players in this game. Things are about to get interesting.”

Is she friend or foe? We’ll have to watch Scherzo of a Dark Dusk in order to find out!
