On October 25, 2022, @DiscussingFilm released a leaked video clip from the upcoming special Halloween-themed episode of The Simpsons titled “Treehouse of Horror XXXIII” that will be a parody of the anime Death Note.
DR Movie, who worked on the original anime series Death Note, will animated the special episode.
You can watch the video clip here:
Lisa Simpson finds the Death Note, err, Death Tome
In the video, Lisa Simpson has been transformed from a “cartoon character” into an “anime character”. As she walks along the crowded, smoggy city sidewalk she laments the current state of the human race and how it’s on its way to extinction – and how humanity deserves this.
Just as she has that thought a Death Note, err, Death Tome, falls from the sky. Lisa opens the book and reads the instructions that inform her that any person’s name that is written in the book will die. Will Lisa Simpson “clean up” the human race in this special The Simpsons episode?
Four Finger Discount recently had a podcast interview with The Simpsons Executive producer Matt Selman where he revealed the special episode “Treehouse of Horror XXXIII” will be animated by the South Korean animation studio DR Movie.
You can listen to the entire on Four Finger Discount’s official YouTube channel here:
It is legit anime that is animated by this fantastic animation company called DR Movie, who executed The Simpsons universe in pitch-perfect Death Note anime style.Matt Selman commented at Four Finger Discount
DR Movie studio is not only known for its work on the background art and in-between animation for Madhouse’s Death Note anime, but has also worked on The Rising of The Shield Hero Season 2 along with Kinema Citrus. (The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3 is currently in production.)
Earlier this year in July, Matt Selman revealed that The Simpson’s special Halloween-themed episode “Treehouse of Horror” would be a parody of Stephen King’s horror novel IT and the anime adaptation of Tsugami Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note manga.
On September 29, 2022, the official Twitter account for The Simpsons revealed the official key visual for the upcoming special episode.
The special episode will also include parodies for The Babadook and Randy Moore’s Escape From Tomorrow.
The Simpsons has parodied other anime before
The Simpson’s fan @apslop revealed that this isn’t the first time The Simpsons has done a parody with Death Note. In a comic The Simpsons did a Death Note parody where Bart was “Light” and Lisa was obviously “L”. Apparently, The Simpsons comic book issue was released in 2008.
In 2014, The Simpsons annual “Treehouse of Horror” special episode included an alternate reality where an evil marketing entity created strange incarnations of the Simpson family members that were obvious parodies of Attack on Titan, Naruto, Pokemon, Bleach, One Piece, and Spirited Away. The Simpsons has also parodied animes such as Pokemon Go and Godzilla.
