What is the plot of The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash?
The story is set in a magical world called Ordoguz where people are granted skills along with “stars” that are the equivalent to god’s blessing. People that have skills without stars are rare and treated as though they’re aberrations.
An old saying exists in the world, “Behave or god will give you skills with no stars”. Starless people are treated as if god has abandoned them.
The story centers on a young girl named Ivy, who has memories of her past life as a Japanese girl. When Ivy turns five her mother and father take her to the church where she offers a prayer to god to see what her skills are. People with five skills are considered to be miracles, whereas it’s normal for people to have at least two skills.
Ivy discovers that she possesses the tamer skill, but is “starless”. There’s also something unreadable about her second skill. A one-star tamer has the ability to tame small animals that can deliver the mail in the village. A multiple-star tamer can tame strong monsters and become an adventurer. A starless tamer can’t even tame the smallest of animals, however.
Due to the fact Ivy is starless, she’s considered to be cursed and worthless to the village. A stray thought from her past life flits through Ivy’s mind, “This world is a crappy game”. Afterward, Ivy’s family shuns her until she’s forced to live alone in the nearby forest.
A kind fortuneteller takes pity on Ivy, and gifts her a magic bag, potions, and some food. Three years pass, and Ivy studies plants, fruit, and herbs in order to find out which are edible and poisonous. Slowly, Ivy learns how to make potions, salves, how to set traps, how to butcher animals, and how to run long distances.
Ivy’s life is peaceful until the fortuneteller dies of a cold because the village chief refused to give the potion to someone who was associating with a starless. Ivy overhears her own father and the village chief talking about how Ivy needs to be killed and sent to god for the sake of the village. Ivy is forced to flee into the forest where she eventually encounters a small, weak, blue slime.
One touch would kill the slime it’s so weak. Ivy decides to tame the slime and names it Sora. Together, Ivy and Sora, set out on a journey as salvagers, and gather up other people’s rubbish in an effort to turn their lives around.
