What is the plot of Tokyo Revengers?
The story centers on Takemichi Hanagaki, whose second year of middle school was the highest point in his life. He reminisces about how he used to have a gang of friends he could count on, their respect, and even a cute girlfriend. Unfortunately, that was twelve years ago and presently he’s a loser. He’s always having to apologize to his younger boss at his dead-end job and even children make fun of him.
Adding insult to injury Takemichi watches a news report on the Tokyo Manji Gang’s cruel murder of his ex-girlfriend and her brother. Later when a train is about to put an end to his miserable life, Takemichi is suddenly transported to that same day 12 years ago when he was still dating Hinata Tachibana.
After being forced to relive the very same day that started his downward spiral, Takemichi meets Hinata’s younger brother and admits to his apparent death before somehow getting transported to the past. Takemichi urges him to protect his sister before inexplicably returning to the future. Takemichi discovers he’s not dead and even weirder the future has changed. Takemichi realizes he can alter the flow of time with this strange new ability of his consciousness traveling back to the past.
Takemichi decides he’s been given the chance to prevent his ex-girlfriend’s tragic death at the hands of the Tokyo Manji Gang and travels back in time in order to change the course of the future.
