The Tomodachi Game R4 release date on TV Asahi is on July 23, 2022.

The live-action Tomodachi Game R4 TV show was announced on June 20, 2022. The new Tomodachi Game live-action TV show will reboot the story by retelling the anime/manga in a new way.

“It’s a new take on the original story. The production team sat together with the original writer to decide on an alternate version of the game, fitting these members,” explained Psycho-Drama. “It’s safe to say it won’t follow the manga/anime/LA, but be its own version.”

The drama is inspired by the Japanese manga series of the same name that was conceptualized by Mikoto Yamaguchi, and written and illustrated by Yuki Sato. Since December 2013, the manga has been serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, and its chapters have been collected into 20 volumes.

In 2017, Tomodachi Game received its first live-action adaptation in the form of a four-episode drama series, and later two live-action films. In April 2022, an anime TV series adaptation by Okuruto Noboru premiered.

What is the plot of Tomodachi Game?

The story centers on high school student Yuichi Katagiri, who was taught the value of friendship when he was young, and enjoys his high school life with his four closest friends: Tenji Mikasa, Yoshinori Sawa, Makoto Shibe, and Yutori Kokorogi. Their friendship is suddenly put to the test when their class’s school trip funds are stolen and the five students are dragged into participating in the mysterious “Tomodachi Game” in order to repay their sudden debts.

One of the five friends is responsible for stealing the money, however, which makes everyone a suspect. These five high school students will begin to question what is more important to them: wealth or friendship?

Tomodachi Game R4 is a retelling of the original story and the content of the games the high schoolers have to beat is interesting each time. I could never think of such challenging games, and each character is unique and interesting in their own way. I plan to mimic some of the facial expressions my character Yuichi Katagiri is seen making in the anime.
