The Fall 2022 anime season approaches and it’s obvious that it’s going to be packed with some very exciting, but also scary shows, which is perfect for getting in the Halloween Spirit. Here’s my Top 5 list of anime shows that have the most interesting, scary, and cunning villains/antagonists you won’t want to miss!

My list is filled with villains that really challenge our brave and noble heroes and really put them to the test. These villains are deadly and overpowered. Some of the villains are simply deviously cunning.

Others like to use mind games to manipulate our heroes while pretending to be their friends. Will our heroes manage to emerge unscathed (mentally and physically) after managing to defeat these villains? Or will they be broken? You’ll have to watch these anime this October in order to find out!

5. Tomura Shigaraki – My Hero Academia Season 6

My Hero Academia Season 6 will be produced by Bones and directed by Kenji Nagasaki (chief director) and Masahiro Mukai. Its plot will follow the story of the original manga series starting from the first chapters of Volume 27. The sixth season will cover the “Paranormal Liberation War” arc (chapters 258-306). The first episode of season 6 will include the rest of last season’s chapter and the rest of the episodes will be the remaining chapters in this arc.

Hawks managed to gather enough information about the merged-villain group while working undercover that the Heroes know everything they need in order to begin an all-out war against the villains that could end up changing superhuman society. The season will focus on this climatic battle between the Heroes (including the students from U.A. High School) and the Villains, including the Paranormal Liberation Front led by Tomura Shigaraki.

Tomura Shigaraki will be the main antagonist in My Hero Academia Season 6. He made his first major appearance as one of the main villains of the U.S.J Arc. All For One, his master, raised him with the goal to kill All Might, the “Symbol of Peace”, which would destroy the society he represents.

Shigaraki merged his organization and the Meta Liberation Army to form the Paranormal Liberation Front and became its Grand Commander. Later, he inherited the All For One Quirk. Currently, Shigaraki is fighting for control over his body as he begins to merge with the All for One into a new being.

My Hero Academia Season 6 premieres on October 1, 2022, on YTV and NTV in Japan. Crunchyroll will stream the season outside of Asia as it airs.

4. The Nokkers (and other threats) – To Your Eternity Season 2

To Your Eternity Season 2 will be produced by Studio Drive and directed by Masahiko Murata. In To Your Eternity Season 1, Hayase was the main antagonist along with the Nokkers, who are Fushi’s sworn enemies. Those alien life forms are super scary – especially the way they’re able to steal Fushi’s multiple personalities. Hayase got it in her head that Fushi belonged to her and possessively killed everyone around him. At the end of To Your Eternity Season 1, a Nokker attacked Hayase but she was later rescued by a kind man.

Season 2 will focus on Hayase’s legacy, which haunts Fushi. When the story begins in Season 2, Hayase’s granddaughter has taken up her grandmother’s mantle and made it her goal to “protect” Fushi. Hayase’s granddaughter appears to have inherited her grandmother’s obsession over Fushi, but she’s also inherited something “sinister” from the grandmother.

Many have attempted to capture Fushi and often had nefarious intentions. In Season 2, an eccentric prince named Bonchien will attempt to capture Fushi. Bon grew up being incredibly spoiled by his family, but because of his narcissism his father deemed him unsuitable to become King and appointed his brother to be next in line. In order to prove his worth to his father, Bon wants to capture Fushi. Is the prince a bad guy? What sinister ability did Hayase’s granddaughter inherit? You’ll have to wait To Your Eternity Season 2 in order to find out!

The To Your Eternity Season 2 release date is on October 23, 2022, and Crunchyroll will stream the season outside of Asia as it airs.

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 3 will be produced by Bandai Namco Pictures and directed by Makoto Moriwaki. Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 3 will begin with the End of Final Days Arc (End of Terminus Days Arc/End of Summer Vacation Arc). Then the Special Tutor Training Arc begins. Due to the fact that everyone in the Misfit Class (Iruma and his classmates) has to meet the requirement of having a Demon Ranking of 4 to stay in the Royal One classroom, they must get stronger.

In order to accomplish this each of them is assigned to a special group of staff from Babyls that will help nurture their abilities so they can get ready for the opportunity to raise their rank during the school’s Harvest Festival. Iruma discovers he has a talent for archery, which is something most demons don’t have the patience for. Meanwhile, Azz-kun trains in how to bring out his “Evil Cycle” to become more powerful.

Then the Harvest Festival Arc begins. After all their intense training the Misfit Class feels ready to participate in the Harvest Festival where they must gather ingredients in a demonic jungle – the aim is to get the very best ingredients and gain the most points. The misfit class will have to survive by using their newfound and improved abilities. However, unexpected threats lurk in the demonic jungle that will put their new skills to the test.

During the Harvest Festival, part-Minotaur demon (he has scary hoofed feet!) Orobus Coco purposefully targets the students of the Misfit Class and uses his unsettling Bloodline Magic “Trauma” to get Jazz disqualified. He does this under the orders of Ocho – a supporter of Baal’s movements in reclaiming the current system of the Demon World and supporting a “return to demonic origins”.

When Orobus Coco uses his ability on Iruma and Clara, Alice steps in to defend them and ends up getting disqualified from the Harvest Festival. When Orobus Coco uses his Bloodline Magic “Trauma” he forces people to see illusions of their greatest fears. Sometimes he can take the form of the person’s greatest fears physically. However, if his victim has a strong will they can overcome the illusion.

What is Jazz’s greatest fear? What is Iruma’s greatest fear? What is Clara’s greatest fear? You’ll have to watch Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 3 in order to find out!

The Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 3 release date in Japan is on October 8, 2022, and Crunchyroll will stream the season outside of Asia as it airs.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War will be produced by Studio Pierrot and directed by Tomohisa Taguchi. In Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War the peace is suddenly disturbed as warning sirens sound in Soul Society. The residents there disappear without a trace and no one knows who is behind it. Meanwhile, dark shadows begin to extend toward Ichigo and his friends in Karakura Town.

The story of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War will center on a conflict between Soul Society and the Quincy’s when all of a sudden their founder, Yhwach The Almighty, is resurrected 999 years after his previous defeat at Yamamoto’s hands.

Yhwach’s ability “The Almight” allows him to observe a near-infinite multitude of future timelines as well as narrow down the options to a satisfactory window of opportunity. This means that Yhwach has absolute control of every situation – this is a truly terrifying ability! As if Yhwach wasn’t already overpowered enough he gains an unknown power upgrade after he ingests the Soul King (his father).

Will Ichigo really be able to defeat a man who can see all possible futures? What about Yhwach’s unknown power upgrade? And what will happen when Ichigo is forced to fight against someone he considers a friend? You’ll have to watch Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War in order to find out!

The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War release date on TV Tokyo in Japan on October 11, 2022. Its international streaming premiere date on Disney+ is TBA.

1. Devils – Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man Season 1 will be produced by Studio MAPPA and directed by Ryuu Nakayama. The story is set in a world where devils are born from human fears and are made manifest in reality. The devils tend to be evil and dangerous and are as powerful as the fear they are able to evoke. However, as the need for “Devil Hunters” arose so did the need to form contracts with the devils in order to gain their power and fight fire with fire. The devils usually live in a dimension called “Hell” but when they are killed there they’re transferred to the physical plane of Earth. Once a devil is killed on Earth they return to Hell.

The story centers on an impoverished young man named Denji, who due to the astounding debt his father left behind is struggling to find odd jobs in order to survive. He befriends a dog-like devil named Pochita and together they collect devil corpses to earn money.

However, one day Denji is betrayed and killed. Just as his consciousness is fading he decides to make a contract with Pochita. The devil merges its body with Denji granting him the ability to transform parts of his body into deadly chainsaws. Using his newfound power, Denji joins the Public Safety Devil Hunters – a government agency tasked with fighting devils whenever they become a threat to humanity.

Makima is the leader of the Public Safety Devil Hunters and is apparently a force for good. Although, there does seem to be something creepy about her from the beginning, and the treatment of her underlings. She appears to use psychological manipulation on Denji, but what is she really after? You’ll have to watch Chainsaw Man Season 1 in order to find out!

The Chainsaw Man anime release date in Japan is on October 12, 2022. Crunchyroll will stream the season outside of Asia as it airs.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

As the story in the manga progresses Makima’s terrifying power is revealed bit by bit until she is unmasked as the main villain of the series – the Control Devil. She manipulates Denji, but has seemingly “noble” motivations. It’s hard to tell how genuine her feelings are for the people around her.
