Since the Vinland Saga manga’s debut in 2005, creator Makoto Yukimura, the Vinland Saga creator, has been narrating the tale of Thorfinn that’s based on the real-life Vinland Saga in history. There is undoubtedly a lot of material for the Vinland Saga Season 2 anime adaptation to explore in the future, with about twenty-six volumes to the manga’s credit.

But in a recent interview, the mangaka behind this Viking world hinted that the Vinland Saga’s final chapter would be coming relatively when speaking with Hajime Isayama, the man behind the Attack on Titan manga.

Makoto Yukimura’s interview with Comic Natalie

A joint interview between Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga mangakas Makoto Yukimura and Hajime Isayama took place for the first time. Comic Natalie, one of Japan’s most well-known media businesses, performed the interview.

On August 22, 2022, a transcript of this interview was posted on their corporate website. The two manga creators exchanged works they greatly admired and briefly discussed each other’s individual series.

The journey of Thorfinn is in its final act, which means the series’ conclusion is in sight.

“As a matter of fact, there are not that many roadmaps left. We are not that far away from the final chapter.”

The Vinland Saga final arc started with Volume 24: Chapter 167. As Yukimura stated in the interview, the anime adaptation covered a lot of significant moments from Vinland Saga’s manga. Still, he was quite pleased with the new material added to the show. He says:

“First, I was really happy to see a Vinland Saga that I didn’t know play out on screen. I particularly felt a sense of gratitude regarding the fifth and sixth episodes. Thorfinn is separated from his father Thors at a young age and ends up working for Askeladd, but in the manga I skipped over what happened until Thorfinn was sixteen. The anime did a great job of showing the process of him growing up and filling in that gap, so I really appreciated it.”

Although Yukimura hasn’t explicitly said when Thorfinn is reaching the end of his gruesome revenge voyage, the artist is implying that there aren’t many more paths left for the Viking to explore.
