Yu Yu Hakusho 30th-anniversary celebrated with new character art and merch

Yu Yu Hakusho is celebrating the 30th-anniversary of its debut appearance in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and becoming its anime, and has begun commemorating the occasion with some unique new art and merchandise for the series!

While much of the current focus from fans is on Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter series as it prepares for its next major comeback, Yu Yu Hakusho was the series that put the author on the map for many fans around the world. While the manga was popular on its own, the anime was even more popular.

The anime adaptation is still recognized as one of the best action anime productions of all time, and this remains true to this day due to how well it has aged overall.

The official Twitter account for the TV anime adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s paranormal manga Yu Yu Hakusho has also shared new character illustrations for the 30th-anniversary project, after the memorable logo depicting the protagonist Yusuke Urameshi (after first released in Japan back in 1992). Studio Pierrot’ recreated them in an anime style based on the manga author’s original cover illustrations for the perfect edition.

The Illustration above showcases the anime’s main character Yusuke Urameshi in his iconic pose while Kazuma Kuwabara wields his explosive blade and Koenma moves ever confident.

30th-anniversary merch

Meanwhile, the official Studio Pierrot store will begin selling tribute items with the 30th-anniversary logo and character artwork. The products include six various characters Acrylic Stands, two different Canvas boards, a clear file set, character T-shirts, and mistgraphs.

Yu Yu Hakusho anime comeback and more

To commemorate the anime’s 25th anniversary, two new OVA episodes adapted from the manga (that never made it into the first anime release) were released, and fans have been yearning for a more significant comeback or revival. Although one is not currently in the works, Netflix is working on a new live-action adaptation of the series in collaboration with Shueisha, ROBOT, and Toho. However, few details about this series have been published so far.
