What is the plot of Yuri!!! On Ice?

The story centers on Japanese man Yuuri Katsuki, who was once Japan’s most promising figure skater but is left reeling after a crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Finale. Yuuri returns to his family home in order to get some clarity of mind and decide what his next move should be for his future. Yuuri’s window for success in skating is closing rapidly since he’s already 23 years old. His penchant for overindulging in his favorite pork culet bowls isn’t helping him maintain a slim figure either.

Trying to find some inspiration Yuuri decides to perform a skating routine previously executed by the five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov. Unbeknownst to him, he was being filmed and the video ends up going viral, putting Yuuri in the spotlight. Unexpectedly, a few days later Victor shows up at Yuuri’s house and offers to be his mentor! Yuuri is a die-hard fan of Victor and can’t really see any reason to say “no”. Thus begins Yuuri’s journey to make it back onto the world stage and this time not chicken out. Competition in the skating world is fierce and a rising star from Russia, Yuri Plisetsky is determined to defeat Yuuri and steal Victor as a mentor.
