Will there be a Magical Girl Ore Season 2 based on the Mahou Shoujo Ore manga sequel?

Magical Girl Ore Season 2 is possible now that a manga sequel has been confirmed in 2018

Magical Girl Ore Season 2 will probably be on the radar of any anime fans who enjoyed the parody of the magical girl genre. But can studio Pierrot Plus take the Mahou Shoujo Ore anime any further, or will the series hit a brick wall due to the source material?

The story was based on Magical Girl Ore manga, which was serialized in Comic Be magazine by author Icchokusen Mokon starting in 2012. The Mahou Shoujo Ore manga series was released in the tankobon hardcover format as only two volumes. An English translation of the manga has not yet been licensed, although there are (currently unfinished) fan translation projects available online.

The anime adaptation was actually announced way back in 2014 when the first manga series reached its conclusion. The production of the anime went into stealth mode for years only to pop up again for the spring 2018 anime season. An English dub has not been announced but the English sub-version was available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

This article provides everything that is known about Mahou Shoujo Ore Season 2 and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news and rumors. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.

Mahou Shoujo Ore Manga Compared To The Anime

Needless to say, Magical Girl Ore is not the anime you show your friends to introduce them to anime. You pretty much have to be a card-carrying otaku to understand most of the humor and references. The story of the Mahou Shoujo Ore anime lampooned series like Cardcaptor Sakura or Cutie Honey Universe by providing a different take on the genre in comparison to Magical Girl Site, which launched in the same 2018 TV season and went the edgy route.

Volume 1 of the Mahou Shoujo Ore manga is only seven chapters long, including the prologue and the half-chapter ending. Volume 2 is similarly short in length. By Episode 10, the anime had already adapted chapters 8 and 8.5 of Volume 2, although the post-credits scene about the king of the fairies was from the next chapter.

With a relative dearth of source material, it is no wonder that Pierrot Plus expanded on the premise with anime original content. Characters like Michiru Ogawa (Magical Girl Eternal Dangerous Pretty), Ruka Kiryu (Magical Girl Everything Crazy Beauty), and even Happy the mascot are new to the series.

The bad news is that by Magical Girl Ore Episode 12, the anime has already covered all of the source material, leaving nothing for immediately producing Magical Girl Ore Season 2. But that brings us to the good news…

Magical Girl Ore Manga Sequel Launched In 2018

Shortly after the anime began streaming in April 2018, the official website announced that the sequel to the original manga series would begin serializing in Volume 64, the May 2018 issue of Comic Be magazine. The first chapter was released in Japan on April 13, 2018.

Unfortunately, not much has been published online about the Magical Girl Ore manga sequel. None of the English fan translation sites have begun covering the sequel as of the initial publishing of this article.

Anime Fans Should Prepare For A Long Wait For The Mahou Shoujo Ore Season 2 Release Date

As of the last update, Pierrot Plus or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Magical Girl Ore Season 2 release date. Nor has an anime sequel been announced.

Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.

In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Mahou Shoujo Ore Season 2 premiere date will occur in the future.

Cynics might be tempted to say that the anime releasing now is just a glorified advertisement for the manga reemerging after so many years. Whether that’s true or not, the fact remains that the manga sequel just started serializing in April 2018, which probably means that anime fans will have to wait at least two to three years before there is enough new source material for the anime sequel to be greenlit. That’s actually not too bad considering that the anime industry is operating at peak capacity, so wait times of several years should be the norm for anything beyond the most popular anime.

But will the anime be renewed at all? One good sign is that Crunchyroll itself is one of two co-producers. Crunchyroll invested into the production committee along with Genco and the anime streaming company even advertised the show with early previews and other web-based ads. Considering that streaming revenue is now the single largest factor in financial success for many anime, it’s possible that Magical Girl Ore Season 2 has a future. Stay tuned!
