On October 27, 2022, @HJbunko announced on Twitter that An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride is getting an anime adaptation. The title can also be translated to, I, the demon king, have married a slave elf, How should I love you?
In Japanese, it’s Mao no Ore ga Dorei Erufu o Yome ni Shita ndaga, Do Mederaba I? Fuminori Teshima is the author of the light novels, and COMTA does the illustrations.
Hako Itagaki does the art for the manga, and both are licensed under J-Novel Club in North America. If you can read Japanese, you can read the first three volumes of the light novel and manga adaptation on firecross.jp on November 1, 2022.
What is An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride?
Despite what the title says, Archdemon is a title given to the greatest of sorcerers. Zagen, our male lead, isn’t an Archdemon at the novel’s start, but he is one of the strongest sorcerers.
He has a castle in the middle of a forest, and he’s never been defeated while he’s there. But that doesn’t mean people him alone.
Zagen finds an unnamed sorcerer attacking a woman and kills him. Not because he’s a paragon of justice. But they were in his garden, and he wanted to nap. So he makes the woman presentable before transporting her outside his realm.
But primarily due to him not wanting to be blamed for attacking her or being interested in using her as a sacrifice. Being a virgin in Zagen’s world isn’t a good thing.
Barbaros, his sole friend, invites Zagen to attend an auction with him, mainly so Barbaros can borrow some money. Zagen agrees to go and winds up spending his entire fortune on the last item.
An elf girl, Nephy, who Zagen fell in love with at first sight, much to Barbaros’s confusion since Zagen has little social skills. He’s so bad at talking that most people think he’s scary.
Can true love bloom between them?
Miscommunications will abound throughout the series, but going by the synopsis, Nephy will develop feelings for Zagen. But how did Nephy end up at the auction?
Why would a sorcerer attack someone in Zagen’s domain? And how long will it take for the sparks to fly?
The light novels are up to 15 in Japan, and 14 are available in English digitally. Volume 16 will come out on November 1, 2022, in Japan.
And there’s no word on when English readers can expect to read them. The manga’s ninth volume will also come out on November 1, 2022, in Japan.
The eighth volume came out digitally for English readers on October 12, 2022.
