Two 2021 Code Geass anime-related project have been announced. Called Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE and Code Geass: Z of the Recapture, one is a smartphone video game and the other a new anime series.

(Please see our related news story for more details about the Code Geass: Z of the Recapture release date.)

The new projects in the Code Geass anime universe were announced via a YouTube live stream at 6 AM EST on December 5, 2020, which is Lelouch’s birthday.

We also know for certain that in May 2019 Code Geass anime producer Kojiro Taniguchi announced a 10-year plan for new Code Geass content. The Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection movie released in 2019 was only Phase 1 of the plan.

Back in June 2020, it was learned that the trademark for “Code Geass: Genesic Record” was registered in Japan. Coincidentally, the Japanese pronunciation for Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE is very similar.

Ahead of the official announcement, the images were leaked thanks to Chinese social media site Tieba Baidu and have since spread to 4chan, Reddit, and other English social media.

The official announcement provided the details about the two upcoming projects and confirmed that both projects are releasing in 2021. They also announced a new book series called “Ashford Gak Ashford Academy Student Council Report.”

Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE game releases in spring 2021

The Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE game is an anime-related project that will be a mobile game, or mobage. It will allow gamers to experience existing stories related to Lelouch, Akito, and other characters in addition to new stories written by Studio Sunrise.

Yoshimitsu Ohashi and Goro Taniguchi created the original story in addition to being executive supervisors for the new game. CLAMP designed the characters.

The new characters include a boy with no memories named AI (the central figure in key visual), who will be voiced by Shun Horie. The girl on the left in the art is named Gigi and will be voiced by Yuki Takada. Archive the female librarian will be voiced by Yumiri Hanamori.

Game developer JORO is creating the game. Studio Sunrise will animate scenes in the game.

What could the new stories be about? Without getting into major spoilers, one of the plot points in the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection movie is the mystery of C’s World. If you apply transliteration to the potential title, GenesiC could mean the genesis, or origin, of C.

Therefore, if Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE turns out to be the official title for a new Code Geass game then it’d make sense for these characters to be related to C’s World.

The Code Geass game will combine RPG gameplay elements with other types of game designs.

Code Geass: Z of the Recapture release date in 2021

Considering that the anime series has a 10-year plan it’s no surprise that one of the two announced projects will be an anime. The Code Geass: Z of the Recapture anime announcement provided character art that seems to include some known characters.

L.L. aka Lelouch vi Britannia is notably missing from the visual art, but that’s not to say he won’t play a role somehow.

The only question is the format of the anime project. It’s possible Studio Sunrise is planning a Code Geass: Z of the Recapture movie rather than a TV series aka Code Geass Season 3/R3.

Director Yoshimitsu Ohashi is helming the new project at animation Studio Sunrise. Writer Noboru Kimura is writing the scripts, with Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi being credited for the original story.

Character designer Takahiro Kimura is basing his work on the designs from CLAMP. The Knightmare mecha designs will be created by Astrays.

The Code Geass: Z of the Recapture release date is in 2021.

Whatever the case may be, we’ll be finding out more details on Saturday. Stay tuned!
