Dr. Stone: Ryusui, a special episode in the Dr. Stone universe, is set to air in July 2022 as revealed in an AnimeJapan 2022 broadcast. Additionally, the broadcast revealed a few preview pictures from the anime, touched on the show’s future, discussed the third season in further detail, and revealed that a special chapter of the manga is set to come out in Shonen Jump around the time the special does, suggesting that it might relate to the broadcast in some way.

The special is set to follow Ryusui through his daily life and buccaneering ways following the conclusion of the second season of Dr. Stone, being an anime-original special that could be meant to connect the two seasons. While the special was shown at Jump FESTA, an account of its contents is a little hard to come by.

Additionally, a key visual featuring the release date was shown during the broadcast, which you can take a look at below:

When will Dr. Stone Season 3 come out?

Season three of the anime is set to come out sometime in 2023, after the premiere of the special. Considering how the Ryusui special may act as a lead-in to the third season in addition to the bonus chapter, it’ll be interesting to see how they adapt the remainder of the manga, as the series ended serialization recently.

Will they adapt the remaining chapters of the manga into a single season, or will they draw it out? We’ll find out in 2023!

What does the future hold for the series after Ryusui?

Warning: Major spoilers for the Dr. Stone manga’s ending below — if you haven’t finished reading the series back to front, do not read onwards!

Dr. Stone is in a bit of a strange position, having ended serialization on a cliffhanger on a will-they-won’t-they prompt for Senku, where he’s planning to go back in time to stop the petrification from ever happening by building a time machine with the help of the Medusa — a perfect prompt for a continuation in some form!

Now, will this be covered in the special chapter? Will the special chapter be a tie-in to the Ryusui special? Will there be a spin-off manga covering Senku’s new adventures? Or will Dr. Stone end with the third season and live on as an admirable example of a shonen?

We don’t have those answers yet, unfortunately, but it all seems to ride on that upcoming special chapter — stay tuned to find out more!
