The In The Land of Leadale Season 2 anime TV series will have Cayna facing down giant monsters while questing with former players from the VR game. But when will World of Leadale Season 2 (Leadale no Daichi nite Season 2) come out?

The main staff and studio making In The Land of Leadale 2 hasn’t been announced yet.

For the first season, the anime TV series was produced by Japanese animation Studio Maho Film. Formed in 2018 (the same year as CloverWorks), the studio is a relative newcomer to the scene.

Their first anime was If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord, while the I’m Standing on a Million Lives anime had two seasons released in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Their third project, Let’s Make a Mug Too, came out in Spring 2021, while By The Grace of the Gods came out in Fall 2020.

The anime’s first season was helmed by director Yuuji Yanase. He’s best known for directing the In Another World With My Smartphone anime and By The Grace of the Gods.

Writer Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handled the scripts and series composition. He’s worked on the scripts for popular anime such as ArifuretaBlack CloverBleach, Claymore, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Season 2JoJo’s Bizarre AdventureRedo of HealerWelcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 3, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, and Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina.

Toshihide Matsudate (In Another World With My Smartphone), Eri Kojima (episode animation director on JoJo Part 5, Tokyo Ghoul:re Season 2, Carole & Tuesday), and Kaho Deguchi (chief animation director for By the Grace of the Gods) were the character designers. Notably, all three character designers had previously worked together on the I’m Standing on a Million Lives anime projects.

Composer Kujira Yumemi created the music. The musician also worked on the How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom anime.

The In The Land of Leadale Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music hasn’t been announced yet.

For the first season, the In The Land of Leadale OP “Happy Encount” was performed by TRUE, while the ED “Happiness in a Miniature Garden (Hakone no Koufuku)” was performed by Azusa Tadokoro.

Leadale no Daichi nite Season 2 release date predictions

As of the last update, Kadokawa, Studio Maho Film, or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the In The Land of Leadale Season 2 release date. Nor has the production of an In The Land of Leadale sequel been announced.

Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.

In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Leadale no Daichi nite Season 2 release date will occur in the future.

The premise of the anime presented a mystery similar to the Overlord anime or Log Horizon anime where the main character was transported into a VR game after it (presumably) shut down. While this mystery is developed over the course of the series, the story suffers from a lack of direction since Cayna is essentially wandering and rediscovering this fantasy world while trying to figure out what to do with herself.

Despite being the typical OP isekai protagonist, Cayna comes off as sympathetic and relatable rather than feeling like a self-insert everywoman. The only problem is that her inner turmoil at being stuck in a VR game was quickly tossed aside in favor of a swift comedic rebound from depression.

If Cayna’s previous life had been developed similarly to Mushoku Tensei in relation to being trapped, the potential drama and character development represented by her acceptance of her new reality could have created a more engaging story. Audiences are briefly shown that Cayna was on life support before the mysterious power surge, but other than being relieved at regaining mobility (and eating!) Cayna’s previous life does little but introduce the standard isekai tropes.

Rather than instantly being handed a harem like most isekai protagonists, Cayna finds herself with an instant family (that she’d forgotten about). This development is similar to I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level where the protagonist abruptly found herself with slime “daughters” despite never getting married or having sex.

Siblings Mai-Mai, Skargo, and Kartatz were briefly used as a foil for developing Cayna’s feelings and resulting depression concerning being trapped in a VR world where she’s separated from friends and family. But the majority of their screen time focused on the attached daughter/brothers trope, which, while comedic, only distracted from the main issues at hand and heightened the tonal whiplash caused by jumping between comedy and the serious story elements.

Perhaps due to these issues, the anime suffered from average reviews in January 2022. The episode scores only picked up slightly as the story progressed into more action-packed story arcs and introduced Cayna’s newly adopted daughter Luka.

But average reviews don’t necessarily mean that the anime production committee won’t have In The Land of Leadale renewed. The In The Land of Leadale anime is arguably better executed than Slime 300, which is already confirmed for a second season despite having lower review scores.

The biggest issue is streaming revenue. In that regard, In The Land of Leadale was often in the Top 5 on the Crunchyroll Most Popular Anime list right next to Demon Slayer and Attack On Titan. While impressive, it probably helped that many of the Winter 2022 anime were also streaming on FUNimation and other platforms.

The secondary issue is the production schedule of Studio Maho Film, which has a history of handling one to two projects per year. I’m Standing on a Million Lives Season 2 only came out within a year of the first season since the second season was planned out in advance.

Anime studios are typically booked out for projects years in advance and publisher Kadokawa is eager to push out as many new isekai anime while the genre is popular. Unless In The Land of Leadale Season 2 is already secretly in the early planning stages, it’s likely that the wait for the second season will be multiple years.

In The Land of Leadale manga, light novel series compared to the anime

The story for the anime is based on the In The Land of Leadale light novel series by author Ceez and illustrator Tenmaso. As of January 28, 2022, the book series was up to Volume 8.

Like many isekai books, the story began life as an In The Land of Leadale web novel that was self-published on Shousetsuka ni Narou (Let’s Become a Novelist). What stands out in comparison is that the web novel was finished in December 2012, but publisher Enterbrain didn’t begin publishing the light novel adaptation until January 2019.

Perhaps due to this large time gap, the author has greatly expanded on the original 69 chapters (including the prologue and epilogue) of the web novel and even added bonus story chapters. Ceez explained some of the changes in the Afterword section of light novel Volumes 1, 2, and 3.

Volume 1: This work was actually completed six years ago. It was my first original work created from scratch and my first submission to such a large platform. My writing was all over the place at the beginning, and the number of misspellings and typos pointed out by readers must have caused them no end of trouble. Now that I think about it, I wonder if I was a problem child who made people ask, “Who do they think they are?”

With this current novelization, some parts have been revised, while others are brand-new. To be honest, it was enough to make my stomach hurt. Whenever I go to a big bookstore and see the lineup of novels that started out on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website, I ask myself if I’m worthy…then my stomach starts killing me even more.

When I first came up with this story, the idea of “being reincarnated as a game character” was still pretty unheard of. Since the official novelization got a late start, my days were filled with trepidation as I worked with my editor. Even now, I can’t stop asking myself if things are really going to be all right.

Volume 2: There are two new characters in this book who didn’t appear in the Web version, so I did some rewrites. The task of fixing my original manuscript continued even as time closed in on me and created a daily cycle of quickly deteriorating health. Once I made the change, I couldn’t go back. There was a lot of suffering involved, so I hope Mimily and Li’l Fairy grow on you.

Volume 3: I once again made edits to what I originally wrote seven years ago and relived many memories of “This part was like this, and then that part was like…” My fingers tapped across the keyboard as I continued to add more and more. The story is a lot different from what I uploaded to Shousetsuka ni Narou.

-Ceez

In 2019, Ceez partnered with writer Ryo Suzukaze and artist Dashio Tsukimi to begin serializing the In The Land of Leadale manga in the Dengeki PlayStation Comic Web magazine. By January 8, 2022, the manga was up to Volume 4.

North American publisher Yen Press is handling the official In The Land of Leadale English translation for both the light novel series and the manga. By August 23, 2022, the English books will only be up to Volume 6, whereas the English manga was only up to Volume 1 by March 22, 2022.

Lately, anime fans have been spoiled by adaptations like the 86 anime that not only remain true to the original story, they also expand on the premise with good original content. The Faraway Paladin anime (Faraway Paladin Season 2 already confirmed) nailed the mystery and drama of the story by adapting only two light novels.

While the In The Land of Leadale adaptation took a more conventional approach it still managed to capture the heartwarming essence of the story. This directorial approach is a vast improvement over the director’s previous work, especially the In Another World With My Smartphone anime. (To be fair, anime producers will often dictate to the studio staff how many books will be adapted in a season.)

The first four episodes of the In The Land of Leadale anime adapted the first light novel volume, although it skipped the bonus short story. Since the book had a prologue, five chapters, and an epilogue, the anime’s adaptation pacing was a little more than one chapter per episode.

While this adaptation pacing wasn’t bad for a book that was 224 pages long, the problem is that light novel Volumes 2, 3, and 4 are 288, 392, and 294 pages long, respectively, despite also having five chapters each. With more ground for the anime adaptation to cover, it was inevitable that many details and scenes would be skipped by the anime in order to reach a good stopping point within the limited time constraints of the episodic TV format.

For example, in the opening scene, the hospital’s emergency generators did kick on after the power loss, but Keina Kagami’s body was dead within two seconds and her spirit had already fled. The books confirmed that her body was dead whereas it was open to speculation in the anime.

In the real world, Keina’s cause of death was attributed to playing the game during the power loss and the Leadale game was shut down only 6 months after death and with only a month’s notice. There were other players who were logged in the last day of service…

Keina’s family hasn’t been mentioned in the anime. Her parents died due to a disaster and her uncle and cousin had cared for her since being hospitalized. Keina’s Uncle worked at the Leadale game developer and he designed the Kee system to assist her in the game.

Removing Keina’s happy family life became an issue once Episodes 9 through 12 adapted light novel Volume 3. Even a flashback by Canyna in Volume 3: Chapter 2 was skipped. Keina’s happiness was wiped out in a freak accident so when she saw Luka crying over her parents’ corpses she was instantly sympathetic.

As Cayna, she could understand what Luka was now going through. Similar to how Keina’s uncle and cousin stepped up to help her after her accident, Cayna wanted to be that person for Luka. But since that characterization was not developed by the anime the adoption of Luka was not as emotionally strong as it could have been.

The anime’s first four episodes skipped scenes like Cayna creating water wheels and public bathhouses for the village. Building materials were recovered from a capsized ship. The potion quest was condensed.

In The Land of Leadale Episode 4 should have included the introduction of Mimily the mermaid but that scene was shifted to Episode 9. There was also some relationship shipping between Arbiter and Cayna during the caravan ride.

There are other minor missing details like Cayna having the ability to hear flora and explanations about the game’s countries, the Foster System, Collection Points, and Skill Masters. The game stats are skipped entirely, although that’s not a big deal since the books were vague in that regard, as well.

One exception is when Cayna figured out the demon player’s level of 432 by considering the levels of the summoned golem monsters. In the game, the levels for summoned monsters are added up and cannot exceed the level of the player. For example, Cayna is a level 1100 Skill Master, so if she summoned a level 1000 creature any other summons would be limited to a cumulative level 100.

If players wished to call upon multiple of the same creature, it could only be a maximum of nine, and the summoning strength had to equal a total of level 12. Summoned creatures were also based on the elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Light, and Dark. If Cayna summoned a Water creature it would be weakened by summoning a Fire creature. Mixing Light and Dark creatures was also a bad idea.

Mai-Mai, Skargo, and Kartatz were named after three snails that Keina found at the hospital on a rainy day. The Foster System (or NPC Compensation Program) was created largely due to the laziness of the developers not wanting to name and create all the NPCs.

Keina was not too emotionally to her “children” and had planned on selling her NPC sub-character designs to the Admins. Keina had to buy the model for Skargo since she wasn’t supposed to be able to make male characters.

In-game, Skargo and Mai-Mai are Cayna’s “biological” children, whereas Kartatz is adopted in a conventional sense. It’s omitted that mixed races aren’t possible in the game since mixed couples give birth to a child that takes after only one parent. At one point, Skargo asks about their actual father, but since a father doesn’t exist Cayna panics and lies by describing the physical characteristics of her in-game partner/friend Opus.

The reason that Cayna can get drunk was due to newbies complaining to the game developer about high-level players having immunities that made them resistant to poison. The VR-MMO developer responded by nerfing high-level players to make them susceptible to status effects like poisoning… and drunkenness.

It’s predicted that In The Land of Leadale Season 2 will pick up the story again in light novel Volume 4. Pic credit: Tenmaso

Despite all these cuts (and many, many more that this article didn’t mention), the anime adaptation did not feel rushed. Similar to the Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt anime, the writers kept the core of the story intact by weaving together the important elements so that it wasn’t too obvious that cuts were being made.

All in all, the first season’s finale, Leadale no Daichi nite Episode 12, found a stopping point corresponding to light novel Volume 3.

It’s the best stopping point since the book introduces Luka and the story begins to offer some answers pertaining to the central mystery of the series.

English-only book readers who wish to read ahead of the anime can jump to light novel Volume 4.

Unfortunately, the In The Land of Leadale manga is far behind both the light novels and the anime. The chapters of manga Volume 4 correspond to anime episodes 5 and 6 (or light novel Volume 2). It’ll probably be 2024 by the time the manga catches up with the anime.

World of Leadale Season 2 anime spoilers (plot summary/synopsis)

Cayna’s life following her recent move to the countryside with her adopted daughter, Luka, is both peaceful yet eventful. One day, Cayna takes a trip to Felskeilo with Luka, Roxine the maid, and Lytt, the local innkeeper’s daughter, in tow to check out the royal capital’s River Festival. When they arrive, however, Cayna receives word from a nearby Guardian that another Guardian Tower is running out of MP and needs Cayna’s help.

There’s just one catch—the tower takes the form of a gargantuan whale! To make matters worse, the festival Cayna and her crew came to enjoy may be in danger… because the whale in question is swimming in that very river!

One day, Cayna receives an urgent correspondence from Shining Saber, a fellow Leadale player also transported to this new world. It turns out that a horde of monsters is headed for the royal capital, and he needs Cayna to lend her mighty powers to stop the beasts. But when a Guardian Tower in the form of a giant tortoise appears in Cayna’s absence, will Exis and Quolke have what it takes to handle it themselves?!

At the bottom of a dungeon, Cayna is finally reunited with her former partner in the VR game “Leadale”, the demon Opus. However, as soon as they meet again, Cayna loses consciousness due to rapid consumption of magic power.

Unfortunately, anime fans will have to wait until the In The Land of Leadale Season 2 release date to watch what happens next. Stay tuned!
