An Insomniacs after School manga-inspired exhibition featuring ca. 30 manuscripts and anime reproductions of the original Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia manga by Makoto Ojiro will take place at the Patria Shopping Centre in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, from August 10 to September 25, 2022.

The event is set to popularize the upcoming Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia anime adaptation, which will debut sometime in 2023, with the precise date yet to be announced. Admission is free, with no reservations required. Anyone is welcome to drop by at their own leisure!

Previous Insomniacs after School commemorations

The exhibition is not the first event of the sort. Scilicet, back in June 2022, when the first Kimi wa Houkago anime key visual was released, it was disclosed that the 81st Nanao Port Festival (July 17) would showcase anime reproductions and distribute leaflets.

Next on, the August 2022 issue of Japanese monthly astronomical magazine Hoshi Navi presented a special Starscape photo contest (Astro Arts), featuring Makoto Ojiro’s Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia tutorial.

The Insomniacs after School anime: what we know so far

The TV Kimi wa Houkago anime adaptation was officially announced in January 2022 even though some hints had been dropped even earlier (e.g., an October 2021 special animation promotional video for the manga). A live-action film adaptation was also mentioned at the time, but there have been no updates since.

In early June 2022, the first key visual and a promotional video were released via the official anime website, with the cast also being announced thereby.

The Insomniacs after School TV anime series is directed by Yūki Ikeda at Liden Films (Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows), with Rintarō Ikeda (Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It) in charge of the script and Yuki Fukuda (Plunderer) in charge of character design. Yuki Hayashi (Haikyu!!) is composing the soundtrack.

Gen Satō and Konomi Tamura will voice the two main protagonists Ganta Nakami and Isaki Magari, respectively.

About the Insomniacs after School manga

The Insomniacs after School (君は放課後インソムニ) manga is set in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and follows two insomniac schoolmates, Ganta and Isaki. The two meet in the school’s storage room that used to be the observatory and form a strong bond over time.

The manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits since 2019 and is still ongoing. Viz Media has licensed the series, with the first volume to be released in Spring 2023.

In 2019, Japanese rock band Macaroni Enpitsu created a music video for their single “Enshin” featuring the Insomniacs after School manga art.

With so many Kimi wa Houkago activities, one can just await the anime adaptation in anticipation! Stay tuned for future updates!
