Netflix’s JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 release date is on December 1, 2022.

Netflix has confirmed that this third batch of episodes will be the final episodes of JoJo Part 6: Stone Ocean. That means the animated continuation will be in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run.

In Japan, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 episodes 25 through 38 will be broadcast in Winter 2023 (January to March 2023). This was not a surprise due to the details revealed months ago by the Blu-Ray box sets on the official website.

The JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 trailer PV was released by Netflix on November 18, 2022.

The announcement of the Netflix premiere was made during a special commemorative program on the Warner Bros. Japan YouTube on October 7, 2022. The event featured voice actresses Ai Fairouz, Mutsumi Tamura, and Mariya Ise. It was known in advance that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 would be announced since the official Twitter had previously stated, “We are also planning to announce new information!”

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 will have 14 episodes. JoJo Stone Ocean will have 3 cours in total, which means that the final ending of the entire story will be contained in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Episode 38.

On October 7, 2022, Netflix Anime confirmed in a tweet that these will be the “final episodes”. Rumors suggest that the finale could be a one-hour special. (See below for more details.)

What’s a “cour,” you might ask? For those unfamiliar with the lingo, a “cour” is a three-month block of TV broadcasting based on the physical seasons usually composed of 10 to 13 episodes.

A “split-cour” is where a single anime season takes a multi-month break before resuming TV broadcasting.

While Episodes 13 to 24 were released by Netflix as a batch on September 1, 2022, the JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 13 release date in Japan was confirmed to be on October 7, 2022. However, bilibili began broadcasting starting on September 1, 2022. The episodes were then broadcast on TV on a weekly basis in Japan.

In this case, the JoJo Stone Ocean Part 2 release date was about a year after Part 1 was released, whereas JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 will apparently be broadcasting back-to-back with Part 2 in a consecutive run. That means the JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 25 release date in Japan will be in January 2023.

The eventual JoJo anime sequel will be JoJo Part 7, or JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. The JoJo Steel Ball Run release date, or even the production, hasn’t been announced yet. Many years from now the anime should begin adapting JoJo Part 8: JoJolion and JoJo Part 9, which is tentatively titled JOJOLANDS.

Animation studio David Production returned for producing JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Season 5. The company has produced all of the anime seasons since the series began in 2012.

In 2022, the studio also released the Spriggan reboot and the Urusei Yatsura reboot, which has been officially titled Lum, the Invader Girl in English. The Urusei Yatsura Season 2 release date is expected to be in 2023 based on previous announcements. The production of the Fire Force Season 3 anime TV show has also been announced.

This article provides everything that is known about Netflix’s JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 (JoJo Part 6 Episode 25 – 38 / JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 25 – 38 / JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Episode 25 – 38) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6 Blu-Ray box sets confirmed the JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 2023 premiere in Japan

On June 15, 2022, a sharp-eyed JoJo fan was looking at Netflix’s JoJo Stone Ocean page in Israel. The Netflix Israeli app specifically stated that Stone Ocean had 38 episodes in total. Similarly, Netflix Spain was also listing 38 episodes.

Additionally, in late July 2022, the DVD rental website GEO ONLINE began listing 19 DVD volumes with two episodes each, which meant that JoJo Part 6 was ending with Episode 38.

At the time, it appeared that the total episode count for JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 was accidentally leaked early, but this information was not confirmed for several months.

On August 10, 2022, the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Blu-Ray release dates were announced by the JoJo official website.

  • JoJo Stone Ocean Part 1 Blu-Ray Box (Episodes 1 – 12): November 30, 2022
  • JoJo Stone Ocean Part 2 Blu-Ray Box (Episodes 13 – 24): February 24, 2023
  • JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 Blu-Ray Box (Episodes 25 – 38): May 31, 2023

When fans looked at the product pages, what immediately jumped out was that the JoJo Stone Ocean BD page also listed 38 episodes in total. The first two volumes had 2 Blu-Ray discs each, whereas the JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 Blu-Ray box set was bigger with 3 BD discs and 2 CDs.

More importantly, the release date for the third BD box set also indirectly confirmed that the JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 release date in Japan needed to be in January 2023, the Winter 2023 anime season.

After all, BD box sets typically come out months after an anime TV series has released the episodes via streaming or TV broadcast (the SPY x FAMILY Part 2 release date in Fall 2022 was similarly indirectly announced in advance due to SPY x FAMILY Blu-Ray box set details). It wouldn’t make sense for JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 to come out weekly in Japan beginning in April 2023 (Spring 2023) if all of the episodes are being released only a month later in May 2023.

Why Netflix’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 release date was in December 2022

As previously noted, the exact JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 release date on Netflix USA (and all other Netflix countries/territories) is December 1, 2022. The JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 release date in Japan should be in January 2023, the Winter 2023 anime season.

In the past, Netflix had previously confirmed that the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Episode 13 release date is scheduled to start streaming on September 1, 2022. JoJo Stone Ocean Episodes 13 – 24 will be released all at once for binge-watching by Netflix, which means that Part 2 will have 12 episodes in total.

Part 2 had been advertised as coming out in Fall 2022. Typically, the Fall 2022 anime season is considered to be October, November, and December, whereas September 2022 is the ending of the Summer 2022 anime season. The reason for this discrepancy in marketing is that the worldwide Netflix distribution is early, whereas the Japanese TV broadcast will be releasing the episode weekly in Fall 2022.

Based on the JoJo Stone Ocean BD box set info, Anime Geek successfully predicted that JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 will be released back-to-back in Japan as a consecutive cour. Therefore, since Netflix continues to early release the episodes globally, we also predicted that Netflix’s JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 release date would be in December 2022.

JoJo Stone Ocean “Episode 39” could be a one-hour special ending the manga’s story?

The ending of Stone Ocean has caused JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6 to be one of the most controversial parts of the entire manga series by creator Hirohiko Araki. Without getting into major spoilers, the JoJo Stone Ocean final season will be quite shocking to anime-only watchers since the bittersweet ending changes the entire JoJo continuity as a sort of setup for the newer manga parts, JoJo Part 7: Steel Ball Run, JoJo Part 8: JoJolion, and JoJo Part 9: JoJo Lands.

The JoJo Stone Ocean story arc ran from 1999 to 2003 in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga series. It’s 17 volumes in total, consisting of Volumes 64 through 80 in the entire series.

In Part 1, JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 12 found a good stopping point in manga Chapter 50. In Part 2, JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 13 picked up the story again in Chapter 51, which is titled “Kiss of Love & Revenge”.

JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 24: Jailbreak… adapted the manga up through Volume 12: Chapter 102. That means in Part 3 JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 25 will pick up the story again in Volume 12: Chapter 103, which is titled “Three Men in the Hospital”.

There are fan speculations that the finale of the Stone Ocean anime could be a one-hour special that contains “JoJo Stone Ocean Episode 39”, but those are just rumors based on the pacing of the manga. However, the idea does have merit.

After all, the JoJo Golden Wind anime needed 39 episodes to adapt 155 manga chapters. The longest JoJo anime was the Stardust Crusaders arc with 48 episodes in total, while Diamond Is Unbreakable and Golden Wind were both 39 episodes each. So manga fans believe that logically JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Episode 39 is necessary since the Stone Ocean manga had 158 chapters and thus there are 56 chapters left for JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 to adapt.

Let’s just hope that JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 does the ending justice. Stay tuned!
