The My Clueless First Friend anime release date is in April 2023, the Spring 2023 anime season.
A teaser trailer and a key visual (see below) were also released to commemorate the announcement.
The teaser gives a glimpse into the premise of the show and introduces the two main characters of the series. In the teaser, we can see the interaction between Nishimura, who is called “Shinigami” by her classmates, and Takada, who is envious of how cool she is!

The main characters of My Clueless First Friend anime include:
- Konomi Kohara (Chika Fujiwara in Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen) as Akane Nishimura
- Shizuka Ishigami (Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 5: Ougon no Kaze) as Taiyou Takada
Shigenori Kageyama (director of Himawari!) is directing the My Clueless First Friend anime at studio Signpost. Takafumi Hoshikawa and Shogo Yasukawa are in charge of the series scripts. Chikashi Kadekaru is designing the characters. Toshio Masuda is composing the music.

My Clueless First Friend, also known in Japan as Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru, is an upcoming anime based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Taku Kawamura.
The manga has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine since May 2018. Square Enix has compiled its chapters into twelve tankobon volumes to date.
Square Enix Manga & Books has also licensed the manga for English release in North America. The manga is also published online on the English version of Square Enix’s Manga Up! Platform.
Volumes 1 and 2 of the English version of the manga are set to release on March 7, 2022.
Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru is a wholesome, slice-of-life school comedy series. Akane Nishimura, an elementary school girl, is a gloomy girl who gets picked on daily by her classmates. Everyone in her class calls her “Shinigami.” But her life changes when Taiyou Takada transfers to her school.
Takada finds Nishimura’s nickname cool! And slowly but surely, he starts to bring Nishimura out of her shell as their unusual friendship blossoms.
