The Overlord movie Holy Kingdom release date is coming up next!
After Overlord Season 4 Episode 13 came out on September 27, 2022, the official Overlord Twitter simply stated, “Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie edition is currently in production! Stay tuned for more news!” No additional info was provided concerning the Overlord movie release date.
The Overlord Holy Kingdom movie (Overlord: Sei Oukoku-hen) will be a direct sequel or continuation to the TV show, not an original story. The Overlord movie will adapt The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom story arc from light novel volumes 12 and 13 that was skipped by the fourth TV season.
It’s also predicted that the Overlord Season 5 anime TV show will adapt the next story arc in the official Overlord timeline that’s set after the ending of the fourth season. But the Overlord V release date will need to wait until the original creator finishes Overlord Volume 18, the ending of the entire story.
Due to the amount of content being adapted by the Overlord Holy Kingdom movie, it’s possible it could be a two-part film. Otherwise, the runtime will need to be higher than average in order to adapt so much material.
On August 19, 2022, the Overlord 10th anniversary was celebrated by a special program. This special presentation can still be watched on YouTube.
During the special event, the official website and the Overlord Twitter released a teaser poster visual art for the upcoming Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie.
As of the last update, Studio Madhouse, Kadokawa, or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Overlord: Holy Kingdom release date. However, the Overlord movie was confirmed to be in production on the same day the fourth season was announced.
“At last, the fourth season of the anime and the theatrical movie are in production,” said Director Naoyuki Itou. “We are working hard to ensure that the show will be satisfying to both fans of the original versions and those who only follow the anime. You’re going to love it.”
Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when the Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie release date will occur in the future.
The timing of the Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie release date should be announced by the Overlord Season 4 finale, which is releasing on September 27, 2022.
Late Fall (November to December) and early Summer (May to July) are typically considered the best timing for a tentpole film to have a chance at being a blockbuster premiere whereas January and February are considered the “dump months” for bad movies. It’s possible that the Overlord movie release could be in late Fall 2022, but it would be odd to withhold this announcement until only months before the Japanese theater premiere since that doesn’t give much time for advertising.
Therefore, it’s predicted that the Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie release date will be in May-July 2023 (Summer 2023) or November-December 2023 (Fall 2023).
This article provides everything that is known about Overlord: Holy Kingdom (Overlord movie: The Holy Kingdom) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.
Overlord Holy Kingdom USA release date predictions for the Overlord movie English dub
The Overlord Holy Kingdom USA release date hasn’t been announced yet. Typically, the international premiere of an anime movie will occur within several months of the Japanese premiere in Japanese movie theaters.
Presumably, Crunchyroll (this has not been confirmed yet) will handle the global theatrical release for English-speaking countries like the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
Crunchyroll’s Overlord Season 4 English dub release date was on July 19, 2022. The anime streaming company has been dubbing their SimulDub exclusives from their dubbing studios in Texas.
Unfortunately, the Overlord anime series doesn’t have the global appeal of the Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO movie so the number of territories should be more limited. Additionally, there will likely be a limited number of theaters and days of screenings, with certain movie theaters showing Crunchyroll’s Overlord: Holy Kingdom English dub and other theaters showing the Japanese audio version with English subtitles.
Overlord: The Holy Kingdom story summary
When adapting the Overlord light novel series by Japanese author Kugane Maruyama, the anime has typically adapted three books per season, which means the ending of the third season corresponded to Volume 9. The problem with continuing that adaptation approach was that Overlord Volume 12 and 13 are literally a two-part story titled Overlord: The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom Parts 1 and 2.
Rather than cram Overlord Volumes 10 through 13 into a single season composed of 13 episodes, the anime production committee opted to have the TV show adapt Overlord Volume 10: The Rule of Conspiracy, Overlord Volume 11: The Craftsman of Dwarf, and Overlord Volume 14: The Witch of the Falling Kingdom.
Rearranging the chronological timeline meant that the Overlord IV TV show briefly mentioned the events of the war with the Re-Estize Kingdom as a sidebar, which was fairly odd, but at least the Overlord movie is able to focus on adapting a self-contained story arc.
Since the Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie will presumably adapt Volumes 12 and 13, here is the official story summary in English for the two-part story.
The Sacred Kingdom has enjoyed a great many years without war thanks to a colossal wall constructed after a historic tragedy. They understand best how fragile peace can be. When the terrible demon Jaldabaoth takes to the field at the head of a united army of monstrous tribes, the Sacred Kingdom’s leaders know their defenses are not enough. With the very existence of the country at stake, the pious have no choice but to seek help wherever they can get it, even if it means breaking taboo and parlaying with the undead king of the Nation of Darkness! An army forty thousand strong is clamoring at the gates for human blood, and there is little hope of reinforcements. The Sacred Kingdom’s strongest paladin, Remedios, leads the defense of the city, but even she cannot stem the tide on her own. Despite the dire circumstances, the unimaginably powerful King of Darkness has refused to lend a hand for fear of depleting his magical energy right when he needs it to defeat Jaldabaoth once and for all. Time is running out for the defenders if they can’t figure out a way to survive on their own…!
As previously mentioned, it’s predicted that the Overlord V anime will pick up the story again in Overlord Volumes 15: The Half Elf God-kin. What’s more, Overlord creator Maruyama has already confirmed that Overlord Volume 18 is ending the entire story!
Overlord: Holy Kingdom theme song music and studio staff
The Overlord: theme song music hasn’t been announced yet.
The Overlord Season 4 OP “HOLLOW HUNGER” was performed by OxT, which was mysterious and passionate! The ED “No Man’s Dawn” was performed by Mayu Maeshima, who sang with passion for grief and despair!
The Overlord: Holy Kingdom movie will be animated by Japanese animation Studio Madhouse, which is best known in recent years for No Game No Life, One Punch Man, No Guns Life, Takt Op. Destiny, and The Irregular at Magic High School (the 2020 Mahouka Season 2 anime was produced solely by Studio 8bit, and The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 anime TV series was confirmed to be in production in early 2022.).
In 2022, Studio Madhouse also released the Bibliophile Princess anime TV show. They also created the Kin no Kuni Mizu no Kuni movie based on the manga series.
The movie and the fourth season was helmed by returning director Naoyuki Itou (No Guns Life). He’s been an episode director for many productions and has worked in various roles on popular franchises like Dragon Ball, Hunter x Hunter, and One Piece.
Writer Yukie Sugawara also returned. Sugawara wrote the first three seasons of the script and series composition and he was the first official source to confirm that S4 was “extremely likely”. The writer has worked on popular anime like Hina Logic, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Kino’s Journey, No Guns Life, Radiant, and Sword Art Online.
Character designer Satoshi Tasaki (Hunter x Hunter movie, Ace of Diamond) returned. Composer Shuji Katayama (Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars movie, The Saga of Tanya the Evil, So I’m a Spider, So What?) created the music.
