A new key visual for the upcoming Pop Team Epic (ポプテピピック, Poputepipikku) season 2 has been released alongside a new trailer.

The visual’s tagline reads: “This is a story of hopes and dreams (just s*it).” Just so.

Season 2, which was originally announced on December 25, 2021, has been confirmed for an October 2022 premiere but the precise date is still unknown.

At the time of the original announcement, the Pop Team Epic production team Tweeted:

“Pop Team Epic. The second series of the TV animation will be produced! 2022. Scheduled to be broadcast like s*it!”

Seeing as the curse word has been consistent so far we should probably expect a worthy continuation of the absurd comedy anime that Pop Team Epic is.

Take a look at the “hopes and dreams” key visual and the trailer:

It has also been announced that the first Poputepipikku season will be available via the anime’s official YouTube channel for a limited time, starting on July 15, 2022, 9 PM Japanese time.

The Shibuya Marui Pop Team Epic “apocalypse event”

To celebrate the S2 release, a Poputepipikku pop-up shop will be set up in the Shibuya Marui department store, Tokyo, during the Shibuya Marui Summer Festival (August 11-28).

On a side note, Shibuya Marui will close for demolition on August 28 as it is slated to be reconstructed as Japan’s first full-scale commercial building made of wood. A Poputepipikku event just may be a perfect send-off!

Pop Team Epic Season 2: What we know so far

Apart from the trailer and the key visual, we literally don’t know anything. The studio and main staff haven’t been announced and neither have the OP and ED songs.

As for the first anime season, it was animated by Studio Kamikaze Douga (the Batman Ninja anime movie), produced by Kotaro Sudo, and directed by Jun Aoki (Gal & Dino) and Aoi Umeki, with Aoki handling a variety of other roles, including character design, key animation, storyboarding, photography (director), series composition, and script.

Gin (Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2) composed the soundtrack. The OP for the Poputepipikku S1 was “Pop Team Epic” by Sumire Uesaka and the ED was “Poppy Pappy Day” by Popuko (Yui Makino)/Pipimi (Yui Watanabe).

The Pop Team Epic season 1 had 14 episodes — 12 regular ones and 2 specials. The first 12 aired in winter 2018 and Episodes 13 and 14 premiered on January 7 and March 25, 2021, respectively).

The first season was streaming on Netflix, Crunchyroll, FUNimation, and Toonami Adult Swim.

About the Pop Team Epic manga

Yes, there is a manga series, too! The Pop Team Epic manga is written and illustrated by Bkub Okawa. The first season was serialized on Takeshobo’s Manga Life Win website between August 2014 and November 2015. The second season of the manga was serialized between February 2016 and April 2017.

The chapters have been collected into two tankōbon volumes (released on December 7, 2015 (first season) and June 7, 2017 (second season)). The third Pop Team Epic manga season began in October 2017.

The series has been licensed by Vertical Comics.

The plot follows the adventures and misadventures of two 14-year-old girls (Popuko and Pipimi) who encounter various bizarre situations. Poputepipikku is famous for its pop culture parodies and absurdity galore. As a result, it has attained a cult following in both Japan and abroad.
