The Shaman King Season 2 release date is confirmed for January 2024, the Winter 2024 anime season.
A new Shaman King Season 2 sequel was confirmed to be greenlit for production shortly after Shaman King 2021 Episode 52 was released in Japan on April 21, 2022.
The first teaser visual and teaser PV trailer were released on March 15, 2023:
The true Shaman King sequel anime will apparently adapt the story of the Shaman King Flowers manga since the story is focused on Hana, the son of Yoh and Anna. That means Shaman King Season 2 will jump ahead 7 years into the future for the next story arc.
As such, some of the Japanese voice cast and the English dub cast will need to be “aged up” as certain returning characters become adults. (Please see the Shaman King Season 2 English dub section below for more details.)
Here is the Shaman King Flowers cast:
- Hana Asakura voiced by Yoko Hikasa
- Amidamaru voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi
- Alumi Niumbirch voiced by Sumire Uesaka
- Yohane Asakura voiced by Shun Horie
- Gakko Ibuki voiced by Michiko Kaiden
- Tao Men voiced by Romi Park
The Shaman King Flowers manga’s story was never finished so it’s possible that the Shaman King anime sequel could quickly adapt the currently available chapters and then jump straight to the next sequel, Shaman King: The Super Star, by manga creator Hiroyuki Takei.
But since that manga continuation went on hiatus in September 2021 without finishing, how will the lack of a solid ending affect the anime sequel? It’s possible Takei could finish the manga’s story in the interim or supervise the creation of the anime’s ending to ensure it follows his vision.
The studio and main staff making the Shaman King sequel have not been announced yet.
The Shaman King 2021 anime project was produced by Japanese animation studio Bridge, which was founded by former members of Studio Sunrise. Bridge is best known for collaborating with big-name studios. For example, they worked with A-1 Pictures/Cloverworks on the Fairy Tail anime series and Toei Animation on the Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold anime.
Studio Bridge has created anime productions on its own, including the 2017 The Royal Tutor (Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine) anime, the 2014 Nobunagun anime, and the 2013 Devil Survivor 2.
Shaman King 2021 was helmed by director Joji Furuta (The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2). Writer Shoji Yonemura (Pokemon) handled the series scripts. Artist Satohiko Sano (Talentless Nana, Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun! Season 3) was the character designer. Composer Yuki Hayashi (My Hero Academia, Haikyuu!!) created the music.
The Shaman King Season 1 anime had 52 episodes in four cours in total. What’s a “cour,” you might ask? For those unfamiliar with the lingo, a “cour” is a three-month TV broadcasting block based on the physical seasons usually composed of 10 to 13 episodes.
The Shaman King Blu-Ray/DVD box set had four volumes in total and each included 13 episodes. The final box set, which included Episodes 40 through 52, was released on May 25, 2022.
The Japanese TV broadcast of Shaman King Season 1 aired without major interruption from April 2021 through April 2022 (the exception was Japanese TV coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics). As in, it was not a split-cour anime, which is when a single anime season takes a break for multiple months before resuming.
The first season’s finale, Shaman King Episode 42, was released on April 21, 2022. However, on Netflix, the final batch of episodes, or Shaman King Part 4, was not released until May 26, 2022.
- Updated June 18, 2022: Shaman King: The Super Star manga resumes serialization.
This article provides everything that is known about Shaman King Season 2 (Shaman King Flowers anime/Shaman King Sequel) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.
Why the Shaman King Flowers release date is in January 2024
As of the last update, Netflix, Studio Bridge, or any company related to the anime production has not officially confirmed the exact Shaman King Season 2 release date. However, the Shaman King sequel was announced to be greenlit for production on April 21, 2022. The time frame of Winter 2024 was announced on March 14, 2023.
Once the news about the Shaman King Season 2 Netflix US release date (and the Japanese TV broadcast) is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.
The official announcement worded it as the Shaman King “sequel production decision”. Being greenlit for production means that a producer has put the project in the pipeline and that actual animation production work at a studio will be scheduled for a later date. To be in production means the beginning of the actual pre-production phase.
Continuing the Shaman King reboot with a true sequel was apparently planned in advance so it’s very possible that the producer already has scheduled out the studio, main staff, and voice cast. That’s important since the majority of the anime industry personnel are booked out years in advance.
As such, Anime Geek predicted that the Shaman King Season 2 release date would be in 2023… but it’s possible that the COVID pandemic caused production schedule delays since it was eventually announced for 2024.
It’s also predicted that episodes will release first in Japan. International audiences will once again need to wait until the Shaman King Season 2 episodes are released from the so-called Netflix jail.
As Netflix USA users know, the streaming giant likes to set up the USA and international audiences for binge-watching rather than releasing episodes weekly. The Shaman King Season 1 episodes were first broadcast in Japan before streaming on Netflix. That meant Shaman King 2021 was split up into multiple batches of episode releases, but all 52 episodes were considered to be the same season by Netflix.
This was a welcome change of pace since in the past Netflix USA tended to number anime seasons differently from the Japanese anime industry. For example, WIT Studio’s Great Pretender anime was technically a single season released over time as several parts, but the last part was labeled Great Pretender Season 2 by Netflix. Similarly, The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon’s Judgement anime was the fourth final season, but on Netflix U.S. it was labeled as The Seven Deadly Sins Season 5.
Shaman King Season 2 English dub release date predictions

Netflix announced the Shaman King English dub cast when episodes first began releasing in August 2021. As such, the Shaman King Season 2 dub release date should be on the same day as the Netflix premiere.
As previously noted, characters who become adults in the Shaman King sequel will need to be aged up, which might mean changing the voice cast.

Shaman King Season 2 OP and ED
The Shaman King Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music hasn’t been announced yet.
For the first cour/part, the Shaman King OP (opening) theme song music was “Soul Salvation”, while the ED (ending) was “#Boku no Yubisaki” (My Fingertip). The Shaman King 2021 music features returning singer Megumi Hayashibara. She performed two OPs and two EDs for the original Shaman King 2001 anime.
For the second cour, the ED switched to “Adieu” as performed by Yui Horie.
For the third cour, the OP switched to “Get up! Shout!” as performed by Nana Mizuki. The ED also switched to “Lunar August (Hazuki)” as performed by the three-member band saji. The song’s single was released on October 27, 2021.
For the fourth and final cour, the ED switched to “Courage Soul” as performed by Youko Hikasa, the voice actress who played the young Yoh Asakura.
Shaman King 2021 anime finished the original manga’s ending
The story for the Shaman King 2021 reboot was based on the Shaman King manga by creator Hiroyuki Takei. Serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1998 through 2004, the manga series ended in 2004.
In recent times, Kodansha USA began publishing a 35-volume Complete Edition of the English Shaman King manga series. It will be the first time that the last several volumes were released with an English translation (VIZ Media, which no longer holds the license, had previously published up to Volume 32).
The Shaman King 2021 remake covered the story of the original manga all the way to the conclusion by adapting all 35 volumes of the Shaman King manga’s Complete Edition.
By comparison, the original Shaman King 2001 anime was 64 episodes. Since the original anime ended in September 2002, which was two years before the manga ended in August 2004, the original anime began to noticeably diverge from the source material once the America story arc in Chapters 81 through 107 began being adapted.
The Shaman King sequel will pick up the story in the Shaman King Flowers manga, which was serialized from April 2012 through October 2014 in JumpX magazine. Due to JumpX magazine’s sudden cancellation in 2014, the story of Shaman King Flowers was never finished and it only has 29 chapters released in 6 volumes.
Thus, it’s possible the Shaman King Flowers anime adaptation will completely adapt the manga and then jump straight into adapting the next sequel, Shaman King: The Super Star. Serialized in Shonen Magazine Edge since May 17, 2018, the Shaman King: The Super Star manga is also not a completed story.
Manga creator Takei put the newest Shaman King manga sequel on hiatus in September 2021. The manga resumed serialization in Shonen Magazine Edge Issue 7, 2022, which came out in June 2022. When the manga returned there were only 37 chapters in total available for making the anime sequel.
Additionally, the Shaman King Marcos manga by Takei and Jet Kusamura ended in Shonen Magazine Edge on June 16, 2022.
Both Shaman King: The Super Star and Shaman King Flowers were released in the USA by Kodansha USA with an English translation. The latest volume, Shaman King: The Super Star Volume 5, was released in English on July 6, 2021.
Shaman King Flowers anime spoilers (plot summary/synopsis)
16 years after the shaman fight in Tokyo 2000, the story begins with Hana Asakura, the son of Anna and Yoh Asakura. Unfortunately, Hana has grown up to become a lazy and brutal kid.
Hana ignores his studies and skips school whenever he can. He engages in gang fights to stave off his boredom of everyday life.
All of that changes when the killers arrive. Two members of the Asakura family, Yohane and Luca, challenge Yoh and Hana to the death in order to seize their place in the main house.
Hana’s boring life is now over since he’s now embroiled in the proxy battles of the Flower of Maize. It’s a team tournament intended to prevent the destruction of the planet when members of the G8 contest the actions of the Shaman King.
