A new fantasy anime series is coming soon! The Dawn of the Witch’s spring 2022 release date was confirmed by a recently released trailer.
For those unfamiliar with the series, The Dawn of the Witch is based on a light novel written by Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrated by Takashi Iwasaki. As of today, the novel has four volumes and counting.
The studio Tezuka Productions is animating this adaptation. They’re best known for animating the classics like Astro Boy and Black Jack. Tezuka Productions also co-produced both Kids on the Slope and the 2019 Dororo reboot with MAPPA.
The Dawn of the Witch will start broadcasting on TBS Japan on April 7, 2022, and on BS11 on April 10, 2022. Crunchyroll has already licensed the anime for streaming, so international viewers can watch it there.
Unfortunately, the release date for The Dawn of the Witch English dub is still unknown. If it is produced, Crunchyroll will likely announced the dubbed version in the middle of Spring 2022.
What is the Dawn of the Witch about?
The story takes place shortly after the end of a 500-year war between the Witches and the Church. Despite the war’s end, tensions between the two remain high in shadowy corners of the world.
At the Academy of Magic in the Kingdom of Wenias, there is a struggling student named Saville. Unfortunately, Saville has no memories of who he was before enrolling in the academy.
Saville’s low grades eventually attract the attention of his headmaster, Albus, who orders him to take part in a special training exercise. Under his headmaster’s command, Saybil leaves the safety of the kingdom to travel south.
Meanwhile, anti-magic sentiments in the south run strong, and rebels pose a constant threat. Accompanying Saville on his journey is the beast of the school, Kudo; the genius, Holt; and Roux Cristasse, the renowned Witch of the South.
Each member of the group has their own motives for making the trek, but one thing is for certain. There will be plenty of adventure along the way!
The Dawn of the Witch Staff
Satoshi Kuwabara, known for his work on Black Jack and Girlfriend, Girfriend, is both directing and taking on the series composition.
Mayumi Morita and Kakeru Kobashiri are credited for literature, while Rena Iwasaki is in charge of the character designs. Other key staff members include Masami Saito as the art director and Satoshi Motoyama as the music director.
