Anime lovers, get ready as Crunchyroll has released the list of anime coming to the platform this May.

There are quite a few shows coming to Crunchyroll this month, so I have made a list of the 10 best anime classics. I hope you find a show you’ll fall in love with!

Trigun (May 17, 2022)

Let’s start with a classic, shall we? Coming from the same era as Cowboy Bebop, Trigun is a 26-episode action-comedy TV anime that aired in 1998. It is directed by Satoshi Nishimura at Madhouse. The anime is based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightow.

Crunchyroll describes the show as:

Vash the Stampede is a wanted gunslinger with a habit of turning entire towns into rubble. His path of destruction reaches across the wastelands of a desert planet. Oddly enough, for such an infamous outlaw, there’s no proof he’s ever taken a life. In fact, he’s a pacifist who’s more doofus than desperado. There’s definitely a whole lot more to Vash than his reputation lets on.

In my personal opinion, the first episode of Trigun is one of the best first episodes of all time. So, give the show a try.

Initial D: First Stage (May 10, 2022)

Takumi’s job as a tofu delivery boy had made him one of the best drivers around. His life shifts into high gear when the street racing world takes notice.

Crunchyroll will also be streaming Initial D: Second Stage and Third Stage starting on May 17, 2022. Initial D: Fourth Stage is coming out on May 24, 2022.

Link Click (May 17, 2022)

This jewel of a show is buried underneath all of the other great anime that have come out in 2021, but it is definitely one of the best. Link Click is a 12-episode Chinese donghua web series produced by Studio LAN and Haoliners Animation League.

Synopsis of the story is:

Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang run a photo printing shop, “Time Photo Studio.” To complete the missions for their clients, they use their pair abilities to travel to the past to the moment a photograph was taken by inhabiting the body of the photographer.

If not for the incredible plot, I’d watch the show just for its sick OP and ED songs.

Space Dandy (May 10, 2022)

This 2014 Sci-fi comedy TV anime series is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe at Studio Bones. With 2 seasons of 13 episodes each, Space dandy will be a fun watch for your next week.

Here is how the English opening credits narration describes the story:

Space Dandy: he’s a dandy guy in space. He combs the galaxy like his pompadour on the hunt for aliens. Planet after planet, he searches, discovering bizarre new creatures, both friendly and not. These are the spectacular adventures of Space Dandy and his brave space crew in space.

Black Lagoon (May 17, 2022)

Black Lagoon is a TV anime series based on Rei Hiroe’s manga of the same name. The show is directed by Sunao Katabuchi at Madhouse studio. Both the seasons of Black Lagoon as well as the OVA titled Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail are coming to Crunchyroll on May 17.

Crunchyroll describes the series as:

Rokuro’s mundane trip to South East Asia turns from pleasure cruise to festival of pain when modern-day pirates take him hostage. Revy, Dutch, and Benny are the ruthless crew of the Black Lagoon. For them, getting shot at while smuggling drugs, guns, and stolen goods is part of a typical day at work—and Rokuro is joining the team.

When a character in an anime says, “ This is way more entertaining than Hollywood is ever going to be!” You better believe it.

Sonny Boy (May 24, 2022)

Sonny Boy is an original TV anime series written and directed by Shingo Natsume at Madhouse studio. This 12-episode anime is an experience. A philosophical, poignant, and inventive experience.

The setting of the story is based on the 1970’s horror manga, The Drifting Classroom. The synopsis of the series is as follows:

During summer vacation, a group of students finds themselves transported to another dimension. The students start developing strange new powers, so survival in this supernatural world begins.

Fairy Tail (May 3, 2022)

The hit TV anime series is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima. The final season of Fairy Tail aired its last episode on September 29, 2019. English dub for all the seasons of the anime is now available on Crunchyroll. I’M ALL FIRED UP!!!!

Crunchyroll describes the story as:

The story follows a teenage girl named Lucy Heartfilla who is determined to join the notorious magical Fairy Tail Guild. During a daring rescue, she encounters Natsu who is part of the guild, and eventually offers her a place. They become teammates performing various missions for the Fairy Tail Guild. Be prepared for an action-packed adventure!

The button appeared out of nowhere. There weren’t any signs NOT to push it…so the solution is obvious, right? Is it a trap or the start of something new and exciting? The crews of Re: Zero, Overlord, Konosuba, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil will find out when they go from their world to another and get stuck in…class?! See what adorable chaos they’ll get up to in this collection of shorts!

This is the crossover nobody asked for, but we all loved it anyway!

Re-Main (May 5, 2022)

Re-Main is an original TV animation series written by Masafumi Nishida and directed by him and Kiyoshi Matsuda. Re-Main is the only sports anime series on this list.

The story revolves around Minato Kiyoumizu, a boy who quit playing water polo after an incident during the winter of his third year of junior high school. But after entering high school, he promises to pick the sport back up.

While it is no Haikyuu!!, Re-Main can satiate your thirst for a sports anime.

Deca-Dence (May 24, 2022)

It’s quite rare to get a good original anime these days. But, Deca-Dence came out of nowhere to give me 12 weeks of greatness. This original TV anime series is written by Hiroshi Seko and directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa.

The synopsis of the story goes as follows:

Humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by unknown life forms known as Gadoll. One day, Natsume, a girl who dreams of becoming a warrior, meets Kaburagi, an armor repairman. They will shake the future course of this world!

Hachimitsu Private Acadamy, which was once an all-girls boarding school, has become co-ed. Five boys have been accepted into the academy, namely Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre, and Jo. As the boys are caught peeping into the girls’ bath, Prison School starts.
