A two-part Haikyuu FINAL movie has just been announced! A Haikyu!! FINAL special kick-off event has been confirmed for August 2023.

After a mysterious countdown appeared on the official Haiykuu!! anime website on August 8, there was a lot of speculation about what it was counting down to, with fans expecting a Haikyuu Season 5 anime TV series announcement.

Well, the countdown terminated at 5:00 AM EST (6 PM JST) on Saturday, August 13, 2022, and now we know what is coming up! A Haikyuu!! FINAL movie trailer PV announcing the news is now available for everyone to see!

Take a look:

The news has been promptly confirmed by the official Haikyuu!! Twitter account.

On a side note, 22 hours before the countdown ended, anime news leaker Sun Wukong published via his Twitter account that a movie plus a TV series is coming soon for an unspecified anime franchise. Anime fans were hoping he was referencing the Haikyu!! anime series but the leaker sadly claimed that was not the case.

Additional information regarding the Haikyuu!! FINAL release date will be revealed at a later, undisclosed date, so stay tuned. Just a reminder, though: Haikyuu!! Day falls on August 19 and this year’s will mark the manga’s 10th anniversary, so it’s reasonable to expect some updates at that date, at least.

Previous Haikyuu!! updates

Info on the Haikyuu!! anime series was revealed in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on February 20, 2022, whereby multiple Haikyuu!! 10th Anniversary projects were announced to commemorate the occasion, including but not limited to an exhibition match, key visuals, and a one-page manga drawn by Haruichi Furudate.

What’s all the hype about?

For one thing, Haikyuu!! is a rather popular franchise and for another, its popularity is not unfounded. Saying that the manga is good would be an understatement.

It’s a sports anime centering on Hinata Shōyō, a young aspiring volleyball player. As is customary with sports anime, the protagonist is just starting out and has yet to polish his skills. Hinata’s idol is The Little Giant, who has indeed inspired him to start playing volleyball, and he’s trying to follow in his footsteps at first.

Thereby, Hinata joins Karasuno High School (the one The Little Giant is attending) and so his journey starts. Being of short stature, Hinata has to come to terms with his complex and overcome many challenges to become a top volleyball player.

If you like Kuroko’s Basketball, Haikyuu!! won’t disappoint you either. Coincidentally, Kuroko no Basuke is also commemorating its 10th anniversary in 2022, which will run until March 2023.

With the Chihayafuru manga ending on August 1st with no new anime seasons being planned, and with Kuroko’s Basketball having finished its run years ago, we can only wait in anticipation for the upcoming Haikyuu!! animation.
