Hunter x Hunter, one of the most popular manga series of all time, is finally back!

Four years after it last went on hiatus, Yoshihiro Togashi’s intergalactically popular manga series Hunter x Hunter will return with a new book volume. The Hunter x Hunter Volume 37 release date is on November 4, 2022.

The news was officially announced by the Shōnen Jump editorial department on September 19, 2022.

The exact chapters that will be included in this upcoming new volume have not yet been announced. However, Hunter x Hunter 37 will most likely only include the chapters originally released back in 2018. It’s also likely that the Hunter x Hunter manga’s return in Jump will be in the same time frame as the HxH Volume 37 release.

The hype is real, with the Tweet going viral and Hunter x Hunter fans rejoicing, and no wonder! The latest addition to the manga series — Volume 36 — was released in October 2018 (Japan) and August 2019 (USA).

Hunter x Hunter manga’s English release date: A study in patience

Hunter x Hunter is rather infamous for its extended hiatuses, which have been chronic since 2006, with the latest one (2018) extending all the way to 2022.

Mangaka Togashi has been posting cryptic messages on Twitter ever since he opened an account on May 24, 2022, leading to way too many speculations and predictions.

For the time being, there’s no news on when the upcoming H x H Volume 37 will be made available in English, so stay tuned for further announcements!

The previous volumes in English are licensed by VIZ and are available both in print and digitally.

The history of Hunter x Hunter manga

Hunter × Hunter started in the previous millennium, more precisely in 1998. For the entirety of its run, it was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Everything was going smoothly during the first 8 years of the manga’s serialization.

Since 2006, Hunter × Hunter has been on on-off hiatus, with the latest one (2018) having proven to be way too long.

The prolonged hiatuses have been credited to mangaka Togashi’s back pain.

The irregular schedule has made the series’ fans rather impatient and disappointed, and not without a good reason.

Hunter x Hunter is a stellar manga series that has been around for over two decades and has inspired a full-blown franchise.

The first 62-episode TV anime adaptation of Hunter x Hunter aired from 1999 to 2001. Another 148-episode adaptation (6 seasons, in total) aired from 2011 to 2014. A 30-episode OVA series ran from 2002 to 2004, and there are also two animated films.

Not to mention that there are a couple of H x H-inspired video games to boot.

Before the manga entered its first hiatus in 2006, the original Hunter × Hunter anime series had ranked 28th on TV Asahi’s list of Japan’s 100 favorite animated TV series, preceded only by legendary anime titles such as Fullmetal Alchemist (ranked 1st), Doraemon (ranked 3rd), and Inuyasha (ranked 20th).

In a curious twist of fate that seems to coincide with this merry announcement, mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi celebrates the 35th anniversary of his pioneering work this year. A grand exhibition aimed at honoring his legacy (Togashi Yoshihiro Exhibition -PUZZLE-) will open to the public on October 28, 2022 in Tokyo and will last until January 9, 2023.

It’s only fitting that Hunter × Hunter is alive and kicking for this grand event!
