What is I’m in Love with the Villainess about?

If you’ve never heard of I’m in Love with the Villainess, you may be wondering what the story is about.

Based on a girls’ love manga of the same name by Inori, this series follows an overworked office worker who dies and finds herself reincarnated as her favorite otome game heroine, Rae Taylor. However, she’s not interested in any of the three prince love options available to her. Instead, she’s interested in Claire François, the game’s female antagonist. Considering how familiar Rae is with the game’s plot, she figures she shouldn’t have much problem pulling this off. She just wants to give Claire a happy ending before the game ruins their chances.

It’s definitely got all the makings of a fun, isekai romance. If the rumors are true, and there is an, I’m in Love with the Villainess anime in production, viewers will surely be in for a treat.

How popular is this series?

Considering how excited fans on Twitter seem to be for this potential anime adaptation, it’s probably safe to say it has a good following.

On My Anime List, the manga has a 7.77 rating overall. Before there was a manga, I’m in Love with the Villainess started as a novel series in January 2018. Since then, the franchise has spawned three manga volumes, a light novel series, and even a spin-off series focusing on Claire. Both the light novels and mangas are licensed for English language releases. In North America, Seven Seas Entertainment handles the distribution. They are known for licensing other popular series like Classroom of the Elite.

The series has also found itself on more than one “manga that needs an anime adaptation list”, including Anime Japan’s 2021 list and an isekai-specific list from Comic Book Resources.

It definitely feels like the demand for an anime series is there, so here’s hoping the rumors aren’t just that!
