About the My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1 light novels
The My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1 (レベル1だけどユニークスキルで最強です, Level 1 Dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu) light novel series is written by Nazuna Miki.
Originally serialized via the Shōsetsuka ni Narō user-generated novel publishing website (February 24, 2017- April 19, 2020), the series was acquired by Kodansha in 2017.
The publisher released the first volume on August 31, 2017, with illustrations by Subachi under its Kodansha Ranobe Books imprint. As of today, five volumes have been published.
Kodansha USA licensed the light novel series for English publication in March 2022.
In 2018, The Level 1 Dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu light novels inspired a manga adaptation by Mawata, which has been since serialized via Kodansha’s Niconico Seiga online manga magazine Suiyōbi no Sirius.
The individual chapters have been collected into nine tankōbon volumes as of May 2022.
Kodansha USA has also licensed the manga series for an English digital release.
Curiously, even though the light novels were rather popular on Shōsetsuka ni Narō — having continually placed first on the charts, My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1 is not widely known by the international fandom. Hopefully, the anime adaptation will change that state of affairs.
Here is Kodansha USA’s cryptic synopsis so that you can decide for yourself whether the title is worth your attention:
“Ryota Sato gets the surprise of his life when he’s suddenly transported into another world and nearly clobbered at the hands of the young, pretty adventurer Emily Brown. This new world revolves around defeating monsters and profiting on whatever they drop — food, money, items, etc. Unfortunately for Ryota, he has no skills to speak of…until he learns he has the ability to get rare drops! Suddenly his luck turns around…or does it?”
Might be worth watching, unless you’re sick and tired of isekai. Seriously, where have all other genres gone?
