Everything you need to know about the Pop Team Epic Season 2

The Pop Team Epic (ポプテピピック, Poputepipikku) Season 2 was announced on December 25, 2021.

On March 26, 2022, the time frame was confirmed during the Anime Japan 2022 event.

On July 16, two new key visuals and a trailer for the Poputepipikku S2 were released.

The studio and main staff for the S2 haven’t been announced yet, so stay tuned.

The Pop Team Epic Season 1 was animated by Studio Kamikaze Douga (the Batman Ninja anime movie), produced by Kotaro Sudo, and directed by Jun Aoki (Gal & Dino) and Aoi Umeki, with Aoki handling a variety of other roles, including character design, key animation, storyboarding, photography (director), series composition, and script.

Composer Gin (Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 2) composed the music. The OP for the Poputepipikku Season 1 was “Pop Team Epic” by Sumire Uesaka and the ED was “Poppy Pappy Day” by Popuko (Yui Makino)/Pipimi (Yui Watanabe).

The Pop Team Epic Season 1 had 14 episodes in total — 12 regular ones and 2 specials. The first 12 episodes were broadcast in Winter 2018 and Episodes 13 and 14 premiered on January 7 and March 25, 2018, respectively.

The first season was streaming on Netflix, Crunchyroll, FUNimation, and Toonami Adult Swim.

The Shibuya Marui Poputepipikku pop-up shop

Earlier in July, it was announced that a Pop Team Epic pop-up shop would be set up during the Shibuya Marui Summer Festival in the Shibuya Marui department store from August 11 to 28.

The event indeed took place, whereby various Poputepipikku-inspired illustrations were drawn on the walls and floors of the venue.

Shibuya Marui closed for demolition on August 28 as it is slated to be reconstructed as Japan’s first full-scale commercial building made of wood. It’s only fitting that a Poputepipikku event was its send-off!

About the Pop Team Epic manga

The Pop Team Epic manga series that inspired the anime is written and illustrated by Bkub Okawa. The first season was serialized on Takeshobo’s Manga Life Win website between August 2014 and November 2015.

The second Pop Team Epic season was serialized between February 2016 and April 2017. The chapters have been collected into two tankōbon volumes (released on December 7, 2015 (first season) and June 7, 2017 (second season)). The third Pop Team Epic manga season began in October 2017.

Each manga season was released as a single volume. Each tankōbon contains 15 chapters.

The series has been licensed in North America by Vertical Comics.

The plot follows two 14-year-old girls (Popuko and Pipimi) who face various bizarre situations, for lack of a better word. Poputepipikku is famous for its pop culture parodies and absurd premises. Needless to say, the anime has attained a cult following worldwide.

Happy Apocalypse! October 1 is just around the corner!
