History of Urusei Yatsura

Urusei Yatsura is an award-winning romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. The manga was first serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from 1978 to 1987. It inspired a 195-episode TV anime series by Kitty Films from 1981 to 1986. It also inspired many films and OVAs over the years.

Viz Media released the series in English in North America in the 1990s under the titles Lum and The Return of Lum. In 2019 they re-licensed the manga and began releasing 2-in-1 omnibus editions under its original title with new translations.

Viz describes the story as follows:

In a high-stakes game of tag, Ataru must touch Lum’s horns in ten days—or aliens will take over the earth! The fact that Lum can fly doesn’t make Ataru’s job any easier. As it turns out, the game of tag is only the beginning of Ataru’s troubles, as he continues to attract strange encounters with otherworldly beings like beautiful snow spirit Oyuki and the sexy crow goblin Princess Kurama!
