The Inu-Oh movie release date is on May 28, 2022. Ahead of the Masaaki Yuasa’s musical anime feature film, the official website of the anime has released a new Inu-Ohtrailer PV.
The new PV showcases the titular character running freely through the town and finding pleasure in astonishing the people with his unique appearance. The PV also includes the trailer for the film released by the production team back in March 2022.

The cast of the Inu-Oh anime film
- Avu-chan of the Queen Bee rock band and Mirai Morimiya, an actor and dancer, play the lead characters Inu-Oh and Tomoya, respectively.
- Tasuku Emoto plays the Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu
- Kenjiro Tsuda plays the father of Inu-Oh
- Matsushige plays the father of Tomoyo
Studio staff for Inu-Oh anime film
Masaaki Yuasa, best known his role in the 2004 movie Mind Game, is the director of the film at Science SARU. Manga artist Taiyo Matsumoto, best known for Ping Pong, has drafted the original character designs.
Inu-Oh is the first anime film written by Akiko Nogi. She has previously worked as a screenwriter for various live-action movies such as The Voice of Sin, and I am a Hero. The film was scored by composer and multi-instrumentalist Otomo Yoshihide.
The story of the Inu-Oh movie
The movie is based on Hideo Furukawa’s 2017 novel Heike Monogatari Inu-Oh no Maki. The world premiere screening of the film was held at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in September 2021.
GKIDS, the company which has licensed the film for North American distribution, describes the story as:
Inu-Oh is born with unique physical characteristics, and the horrified adults cover every inch of his body with garments, including a mask on his face. One day, he meets a boy named Tomona, a blind biwa player, and as Tomona plays a delicate song of tangled fate, Inu-Oh discovers an incredible ability to dance.
Inu-Oh and Tomona become business partners and inseparable friends, using their creative gifts to survive on the margins of society, as song after song gain them notoriety and propel them to stardom. Through the songs, Inu-Oh mesmerizes his audiences on stage, and gradually begins to transform into someone of unequaled beauty. But why is Tomona blind? Why was Inu-Oh born with unique characteristics It is a story about the friendship of Inu-Oh and Tomona, who dance and sing to get to the truth and break each other’s curse.
