Nintendo has announced its plans to acquire Dynamo Pictures, a CG animation studio based in Tokyo. The two companies are currently in negotiations, with the deal expected to be closed on October 3, 2022.

According to the notification of acquisition, Nintendo has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares of Dynamo Pictures and to make it a wholly owned subsidiary. The studio will thereafter be renamed Nintendo Pictures and will focus on the development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP.

According to Nintendo representatives, the move comes in an effort to strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content in the Nintendo group.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Nintendo is rushing to enter the TV anime production market since no additional information has been disclosed yet. Seeing as Dynamo Pictures has a history of cooperation with Nintendo, having produced CG content for multiple anime releases and video games, Nintendo Pictures may produce CGI sequences, trailers, and similar content, but let’s not jump the gun.
