The Uncle From Another World Season 2 anime TV show will have Takafumi Takaoka and Sumika Fujimiya continue to watch the misadventures of Ojisan aka Uncle Yosuke Shibazaki and Tsundere Elf as they search for a way home to Japan in an anti-magic dungeon. But when will Isekai Ojisan Season 2 come out on Netflix?
Anime Geek is predicting that the 2nd season will be renewed, but it’s expected that the Isekai Ojisan Season 2 release date will be in 2025 for various reasons. (Please see the Uncle From Another World Season 2 release date predictions section below for more details.)
The studio and main staff making Uncle From Another World Season 2 haven’t been announced yet.
For the first season, the anime was produced by Japanese animation Studio Atelier Pontdarc. Never heard of them? Neither had I despite writing about anime for a living. Atelier Pontdarc is a relatively new animation studio and the Isekai Ojisan anime is their second production after the 2021 Do Your Best, Douki-chan (Ganbare Douki-chan).
The first season was helmed by director Shigeki Kawai. Isekai Ojisan is the first time that Kawai was the main director, but he’s been an assistant director for Blue Exorcist Season 2. He’s also been an episode director for popular anime such as Sword Art Online: Alicization, Darling in the FranXX, and Gate Season 2.
“I’ve spent 20 years in an Isekai known as the anime industry,” said the director. “I’ve also learned how to use several types of magic. This time I want to try to cast a spell that will make everyone smile. ‘The results may vary depending on the person. Some people might burst out in laughter.'”
Writer Kenta Ihara wrote the scripts and series composition. He’s a more recognizable name since he’s also worked on recent popular anime such as Tomodachi Game, Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2, Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Season 2, Vinland Saga Season 2, Full Dive, Cautious Hero, Trapped in a Dating Sim, and Mieruko-chan.
“Uncle and I came from the same generation, so I have a lot of emotional attachment to this work,” said the anime writer. “Up until now, it happened with a lot of other Isekai works. To make sure I don’t lose to his love for SEGA, I’ll put in all my effort into the script. For people who are uncles, and for people who are uncles, I hope you’ll be able to enjoy this work.”
Kazuhiro Oota (Re:ZERO Season 2) was both the character designer and chief animation director.
“The main staff, who are all old men, will do their best,” said the animator.
The Uncle From Another World Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music hasn’t been announced yet.
For the first season, The Uncle From Another World OP “story” was performed by Mayu Maeshima, while the ED “Ichibanboshi Sonority” was performed by Yuka Iguchi.
The production of the first season suffered from delays due to COVID infections affecting the studio staff and other subcontractors. For example, the Uncle From Another World Episode 5 release date in Japan was delayed until August 17, 2022. (Uncle From Another World Episode 4 didn’t come out on Netflix USA and the rest of the world until August 10, 2022.)
Subsequently, the Uncle From Another World Episode 6 release date was pushed back to August 24, 2022, and the Uncle From Another World Episode 7 release date to August 31, 2022.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of the delays. On September 9, 2022, it was announced that the Uncle From Another World Episode 8 release date was being pushed back to 25:35 JST on November 24, 2022 (effectively November 25th at 1:35 AM JST). In Japan, Episodes 3 through 6 were rebroadcast on TV from September 7 through 28, 2022. Then the TV broadcast restarted beginning with Episode 1 on October 6, 2022.
The delays did not end there. On December 26, 2022, it was announced that the Uncle From Another World Episode 13 release date was being postponed, as well, due to the COVID pandemic in China impacting the production schedule for video work outsourced to Chinese companies. The first season’s finale, Isekai Ojisan Episode 13, was originally intended to release on December 29, 2022.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Isekai Ojisan anime will suffer the same fate as the 86 anime or the Wonder Egg Priority anime. Both series had their respective finale episodes pushed back by months due to production delays. Those TV shows needed to wait until Japanese broadcasters had open time slots in their schedules. Even though Isekai Ojisan is a Netflix exclusive for international streaming, Netflix is only a licensor and Japanese broadcasters AT-X and BS11 (Nippon BS Broadcasting Corporation) are directly part of the anime production committee.
Based on this newest delay, the first season’s finale, Uncle From Another World Episode 13, will release sometime in 2023.
The 13 episodes will be released as three Uncle From Another World Blu-Ray/DVD volumes. Volume 1 was scheduled to release on September 28, 2022, Volume 2 on January 25, 2023 (delayed from October 26, 2022), and Volume 3 on February 22, 2023 (delayed from November 25, 2022). It’s possible that the final BD box set will be delayed again.

Isekai Ojisan Season 2 release date predictions: Renewal very likely, but expect to wait until 2025
As of the last update, Studio Atelier Pontdarc, Kadokawa, or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Unclear From Another World Season 2 release date. Nor has the production of an Uncle From Another World sequel been announced.
Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Isekai Ojisan Season 2 release date will occur in the future.
The Isekai Ojisan anime seems to have struck a chord with fans. The Uncle From Another World review scores are much higher than average for any isekai anime.
Sure, most of the humor is comprised of SEGA shilling and upending tired isekai tropes, but it’s done in a way where the characters are relatable as people rather than personified stereotypes. We perfectly understand when Takafumi feels secondhand embarrassment watching the fantasy antics of his seemingly dense NEET Uncle.
And then we get the perspective of Sumika, who represents the average person and how they’d react to both Uncle and the equally dense Takafumi (romantic obliviousness runs in the family, apparently). Female leads like Elf-san represent the old school Tsundere, whereas ice elemental descendant Mabel is a kuudere with a slightly sinister twist. Cheerful Alicia Edelcia is a chosen hero straight out of fantasy.
Studio Atelier Pontdarc also managed to create an animation art style that they can call their own. It definitely stands out in the crowded isekai anime market.
All of these factors lined up to create a product that has anime fans voting it the best anime of Summer 2022. The fact that it’s available on Netflix and Disney+ Japan and not just Crunchyroll or HIDIVE is another bonus that may help the anime production decide to have Uncle From Another World renewed for a second season.
One critical factor to understand is that Netflix itself doesn’t directly decide whether to have Isekai Ojisan renewed for a second season. Netflix has exclusive international streaming rights, and they do tend to pay better than streaming competitors, but they’re not part of the anime production committee or the producer companies that will make the decision.
Regardless, the streaming success (or lack thereof) on Netflix is a critical factor since streaming revenue is the biggest portion of income in the anime industry. Unfortunately, the Isekai Ojisan anime did not manga to make the Netflix Japan Top 10 in July 2022, nor the global Netflix Top 10 for English or non-English TV shows.
Thankfully, Netflix has a history of its anime exclusives being renewed even when they’re not topping the global charts. For example, Netflix’s Record of Ragnarok Season 2, BEASTARS Season 3, Ultraman Season 3, ARCANE Season 2, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Part 2, EDENS ZERO Season 2, Baki Hanma Season 2, Komi Can’t Communicate Season 2, and Kengan Ashura Season 2 (Kengan Ashura Part 3) were all confirmed in production (relatively) soon after their respective previous seasons were released. (Netflix’s Kengan Ashura Season 3 is confirmed as “Season 2” by Netflix, but there was a long wait until the production was announced.)
But it’s not like being a Netflix anime exclusive signifies an automatic renewal. Netflix’s Yasuke Season 2, Netflix’s High-Rise Invasion Season 2, Netflix’s Drifting Dragons Season 2, Netflix’s The Idhun Chronicles Season 3, and Netflix’s 7 SEEDS Season 3 were never announced even though several of these TV shows were based on finished stories from books or Japanese manga series.
Still, even if the second season is greenlit for production the main issue is the lack of source material since the anime’s first season almost caught up with the Uncle From Another World manga. It took about three years for the original creator to make the Isekai Ojisan manga chapters that were adapted by the anime.
Therefore, it’s predicted that the Uncle From Another World Season 2 release date will be several years from now. At the monthly rate that new manga chapters are created, Isekai Ojisan Season 2 could come out in 2025 or 2026 at the earliest.
Uncle From Another World manga compared to the anime
The story for the anime TV show is based on the Uncle From Another World manga by series creator Hotondoshindeiru. Digitally published online on Comic Walker and NicoNico since June 2018 and Kadokawa has released the chapters in tankobon format volumes.
As of August 20, 2022, the manga was up to Volume 8, which included up through Chapter 42.
By June 2022, the Isekai Ojisan manga had 1.8 million copies in circulation. It’s possible that the anime boosted the manga sales in Summer 2022, but if so the numbers weren’t high enough for the manga to reach the Oricon Top 20 manga sales chart in July 2022.
North American publisher began releasing the Isekai Ojisan manga’s English translation in June 2021. As of August 9, 2022, the English manga was up to Volume 5
The anime stayed mostly true to the source material although the chapters were rearranged by certain episodes. For example, Alicia’s introduction was originally in Chapter 10, which should have been Isekai Ojisan Episode 4.
The earlier comedic pacing of the manga tended to be fairly scatterbrained, which made it difficult for the anime scriptwriter to repackage the jokes into a focused narrative. If anything, the anime actually managed to heighten the comedic delivery and the cultural references.
For example, Isekai Ojisan Episode 3 contained an obvious reference to Attack On Titan, but the manga chapter didn’t make it abundantly clear like the anime by having the titan-like fantasy creature peering over the wall of the magical barrier town.
Here’s a guide to how Uncle From Another World Season 1 adapted the manga:
- Uncle From Another World Episode 1: Chapters 1, 2, 3, 5
- Uncle From Another World Episode 2: Chapters 4, 6, 7
- Uncle From Another World Episode 3: Chapters 8, 9
- Uncle From Another World Episode 4: Chapters 11, 12, 13.5 (Volume 2 Omake/Extra)
- Uncle From Another World Episode 5: Chapters TBA (10, 13, 14?)
- Uncle From Another World Episode 6: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 7: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 8: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 9: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 10: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 11: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 12: Chapters TBA
- Uncle From Another World Episode 13: Chapters TBA (35, 36, 37?)
All in all, it’s predicted that the first season’s finale, Isekai Ojisan Episode 13, will find a stopping point corresponding to manga Volume 7: Chapter 37.
It’s the best stopping point since it fully brings plot resolution and closure to a fantasy story arc while setting up the sequel. The chapter works as a climax since it has a mix of (anti-climactic) battles in Jato that allows the girls to show off. Plus, Uncle aka Orc-Face helps his “enemy” the President while also accidentally defeating Doldore in epic fashion.
As previously mentioned, the bad news is that there currently is not enough chapters available for making Uncle From Another World Season 2. Since new manga chapters are released monthly, there will be enough source material for a second season by 2025 (although some of the recent chapters are action-focused so when animated they’ll take mere minutes of screentime).
The good news is that manga readers can jump straight to Volume 8 to read ahead of the anime. Unfortunately, English-only manga readers will have to wait until late 2023 when the official English translation of Volume 8 comes out.
Uncle From Another World 2 anime TV spoilers (plot summary/synopsis)
The last time we watched Uncle’s fantasy adventures in Granbahamal, Alicia-san, Raiga, Edgar, and the others had taken off to the royal capital. Uncle has continued traveling with Elf-san and Mabel as he tries to figure out a magical means for returning to Japan.
When Mabel oversleeps at an inn, Uncle and Elf ditch her (and tell the innkeepers they’re splitting the bill with her!) in order to travel to a dungeon. They travel south for multiple days in a covered wagon and the ride is pretty crazy since it’s Elf girl’s first time driving!
It’s also a “bad memory” since Elf has Uncle hand feed her while she smiles and mumbles, “Stupid orc…” While Uncle is glad when the ride is over, Elf just wishes it could have lasted longer. (He’s still not catching on, obviously.)
But when they finally arrive at the dungeon at the foot of a mountain they discover a gathering of befuddled adventurers. It turns out that magic would only work for a short time in the dungeon so it seems like there is an anti-magic system in place. But that dangerous revelation doesn’t phase Uncle at all.
“I don’t know what’ll happen, but we’ll just have to press the start button to begin,” Uncle said, sounding all cool without trying.
Meanwhile, in the real world ,it’s now September 2018. YouTube just released the new feature that allows livestreaming, but Uncle is opposed to the idea since he believes YouTube professionals should be creating high-quality edited videos. Still, they manage to figure out new ways to use magic to keep audiences smashing the like button.
Everyone still wants to go on the hot springs trip in Japan. Except for Sawae, who bluntly said, “I”m not goooo-ing.”
When Fujimiya is having girl time with Saware, the girl discusses how she’s begun watching Youtubers doing magic tricks. She’s curious about Takafumi’s Uncle but Fujimiya warns her to not watch Ojisan’s channel.
Takafumi introduces Uncle to modern coffee shops at the bookstore. He’s expressing his amazement at the great variety of menu options and that’s when he notices the girls. They then have a discussion about books and whether digital eBooks or physical light novels are better.
The next day they finally get back to the dungeon incursion… but then Uncle skips right past the explanation of how he solved the dungeon’s anti-magic mystery and jumps straight to their first fight! Takafumi is very frustrated at missing the full dungeon walkthrough, but Uncle insists that viewers would be bored by such a compilation and skip to another video!
Uncle and Elf still have mysteries to resolve. Their magic is limited and their magical weapons are faulty. Even worse, the first skeleton monster they encounter seems easy at first but it’s growing stronger the more they fight it, reviving every time to transform into a terrifying skeletal monstrosity that looks like it came out of a boiling hell.
While the situation seems hopeless, Elf-san recognizes a flaw in the monster creature’s design. When Uncle compliments her by stating he can put faith in her plan she begins beaming a smile back at him. Of course, Uncle misunderstands her happiness and thinks she’s just crazily smiling like a Battle Maniac, for which she bonks him repeatedly on the head.
But that’s just the first layer of the dungeon. Once they descend, they are warned by another adventurer that the easy part is over and now the real challenge starts below… (Of course, this same adventurer snuck past the first layer through a secret passageway and insists that anyone who can defeat the “unkillable” skeleton creature is a monster themselves.)
Unfortunately, anime fans will have to wait until the Uncle From Another World Season 2 release date to watch what happens next. Stay tuned!
