A new anime based on the manga Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai is set to air in October 2022. Japanese viewers can watch the anime on Tokyo MX, MBS, or BS Asahi. And international fans should stay tuned for more information regarding a Crunchyroll release.

Lindenfilms, the studio that animated Tokyo Revengers and Terra Formars will handle the production with Hideyo Yamamoto (Strike the Blood) as director. And from what’s been shown in the series’ first PV, the studio has brought the story to life with vibrant colors and fluid animation.

Several members of the voice cast have already been announced including main characters Mameda and Bunko Daikohutei who will be played by Mao Ichimichi (Fire Force’s Iris) and Hibiku Yamamura (Kiznaiver’s Noriko Sonozaki) respectively. The role of rival Shirara Tsubaka has also been cast to Lynn, the voice actress of Atsushi Nakajima in Bungou Stray Dogs.

  • Mao Ichimichi as Mameda
  • Hibiku Yamamura as Bunko
  • Lynn as Shirara Tsubaka
  • Takuya Eguchi as Byakudanji Tsubaki
  • Ayumu Murase as Sakujiro
  • Natsuki Aikawa as Omatsu
  • Ikumi Hasegawa as Koito

Mao and Hibiku recently took to the stage at AnimeJapan2022 to promote the new series. Donning beautiful kimonos, the two actresses showed off their excitement for the announced release date and new PV. Hibiku also took time to promote her Shadowverse Flame role as Itsuki Mitsudagawa.

What is the plot of My Master Has No Tail?

Young tanuki Mameda heads to Osaka with the explicit instruction from her family not to turn into a human nor interact with humans of any kind. Tanuki are known in Japanese folklore to be shapeshifters — a trope used widely in anime such as Winter 2021’s Kemono Jihen. Despite her family’s wishes, however, Mameda shifts into a human the moment she arrives.

The big city proves to be far less inviting than Mameda hopes. Quickly discovered as a tanuki, she’s forced to go into hiding. And with no money — other than leaves she tries to pass off as fake cash — she isn’t able to enjoy the sights and treats Osaka has to offer.

While exploring, Mameda bumps into a rakugo, Bunko, with the ability to enchant viewers with her spoken tales. Mesmerized by the performance, Mameda accidentally shifts back into her tanuki form and is chased by a crowd of humans. Her fate looks bleak until she’s rescued by Bunko.

What other series are there to expect from the Fall 2022 anime season?

AnimeJapan 2022 has brought news about new anime and sequels coming this fall in addition to Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai. A few notable announcements include JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Part 2 and the Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! Precious Friends film.

There’s also Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! and Akuyaku Reijou nano de Last Boss wo Kattemimashita to check out — both mixing comedy and fantasy for a fun experience. Old classics are also getting new entries such as Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo and BLEACH: Sennen Kessen-hen
